We have a local grocery store that sells everything, including tubs of lard that can’t be found in regular grocery stores. I can also get produce there that I can’t get anywhere else, such as bitter melon. Only store in town that sells rhubarb 😀

Big fan of bran muffins here. I usually make them with flaxseed meal instead of eggs and they’re delicious! Unless you mean raised muffins. Very much like them but every time I make them I wind up scorching them 😛

Mixer’s on the fritz, sadly. I have a KitchenAid and the new ones use nylon gears and such and I think they’re starting to wear down. Having some issues where they won’t catch properly 🙁

Well, finally got the external speakers hooked up to the TV (better late than never!) so no more garbled dialogue! 😛

Took my dog a bit to get used to it. Going to need to give things a bit of a whirl! Still need to tweak the sound settings to my personal preferences but that’ll come 🙂

May turn off HDMI-CEC though as it’s just as finicky as ever. Good idea but it tends to get confused about devices as it tries to turn them all on and then it cycles through them all as it’s not sure which one to use even though I only pressed the button for one. Had the same issue twenty years ago 😛 May just do everything manually again 🙂

Started trying out the cake recipes and they’re turning out amazing! For the holidays, I made a chocolate layer cake with chocolate raspberry frosting and it was delicious!

Think it might be a reference to this gem 😛 Caught it on the MST3K marathon some years ago 😀

Yep, it’s the best song Futurama has ever done. It’s wonderful!

Lovely! Seriously need to watch that show!

A Zoidberg a day keeps the doctor away! 😀 Of course, he’s not a very good doctor 😛

Yep! I really enjoy the awfulness of them 😛 About ten years ago, I watched The Star Wars Holiday Special. It was quite memorable, especially when the Wookiees were given the equivalent of porn 😛

Yeah, I really need to watch Portlandia one of these days!

Eventually, I’ll get back to anime and other stuff. Don’t know when but I will!

It used to be back in the GBA era (you used to be able to type in the ID from the card to import it) but they got rid of that feature for both Yugioh and Pokemon when they transitioned to online play. I guess they figured that it would give folks too much of a leg up

Yeah, none of those are even remotely similar 😛 Granted, Epic Battle Fantasy was fun back in the Flash game era. Tabletop Simulator has a lot of classics! And you can download more!

    So links!

For Pokemon, we’ve got TCG Live, as mentioned. Haven’t tried it myself, though

For Yugioh, we have both Duel Links and Master Duel. In both cases, they differ from the physical card game due to having slightly different card selections and ban lists (it’d make more sense to keep things consistent but they didn’t ask me 😛 ). In the case of Duel Links, it’s a condensed version of the game to help introduce people to the game

Now that things have started to arrive, it definitely looks like it could use some work. But that’s okay! I had planned to modernize the snot out of it anyways 😛 It also gives me a starting point as I have a hard time following the effects by reading them on a screen, I do better when I’m looking at a physical card. Once they’ve finished arriving, I’ll have a better idea of what I need to do to fix it up. 🙂

Oh, didn’t mean they didn’t have any just that I already read it all! 😛

Looks like Kobo may have changed their terms so that free public-domain works are no longer in the eBook store. Fortunately, the Kobo devices allow one to easily sideload files just like a USB drive so I’ll probably do that if the library access doesn’t come back soon. Being without books is driving me crazy! 😛

Huh, cool. Haven’t seen those kinds of films in years. Followed the links and here’s a good article on a lot of it

And we’re making headway! At the very least, the results will be greatly beneficial in hunting out life elsewhere. Had quite a few articles come in over the last couple of weeks! Going to need to sort through them! Just haven’t had the opportunity 😛

    It’s that time again!

    My annual Futurama rewatch 😀

Haven’t seen Santa v Martians in a decade but, as I recall, he simply teaches them a holiday lesson. I had an old writeup on the Lab about it. It was horrendous 😛

Nope, haven’t seen it. When it came out, I had just started my TCM phase so I missed it (along with a lot of other films released since :P). Will try to rectify it though

Saw Bloody Birthday yesterday and that was quite fun. Definitely will watch again!

They also have mice with a thumb trackball, giving you a combination. Would be pretty cool in games!

I don’t do well with touchpads. My fingers are so rough that they wear off the coating in a month making them very difficult to use thereafter 😛

Yep! Spiders would also be a good fit! Lots of potential uses for such a device! Could even do beetles! They’d be a lot of fun!

Yeah, they use Overdrive/libby and Adobe Digital Editions. Not exactly a good combination 🙁 Though, they work great when they work. 😛

I’ll give it another day or so before I start combing Project Gutenberg again for public domain books. Going to miss reading science fiction, though

    in reply to: Random #1666

A trackball may help as well, assuming one can find it these days. I’m sure they exist as they’re still pretty popular in the art and design fields 🙂

Could be fun to use it to scan random things around the home, such as ink pens or even a sandwich 😛

Cool! One of these days, we probably need to get a thread on books going. 🙂

Right now, it’s a bit difficult for me to get books as the library system on the e-reader has been acting up for the last month or so. It does this periodically and is very annoying when it does. 🙁

I like using it from the e-reader as it lets me browse similar books and things instead of knowing what I want from the library already if I were to use the standalone software

Sorry! Been a bit preoccupied with catching up on sleep and pouring over the site’s update issues 😛

The list for 100% is much longer! I’m also a fan of this article 😀

The Death Wish films had very similar plots, too! Probably need to watch them again just to make a more modern critique 😛

Sounds terrible. Of course, that means I need to watch it. 😛

Watched the annual Mythbusters marathon with my mom the other day and she wasn’t a fan of it! It’s a lot of fun! Of course, they never did take the change of gravity into account when the things they’re testing don’t occur on Earth. That would greatly affect things!

Right now, the site is set to invite only with registration disabled. We can either turn it on or set it up to manually approve each registration request. The regular private forums are set to be viewed by any member that’s logged in but we can change it to admins only (the group forums are private to the groups with the way we have them set right now) if desired 🙂

Nope. Used to follow their RSS feed but it doesn’t look like they have that anymore? May need to sign up for the newsletter then 🙂 Biggest worry with Mailchimp would be if someone gained access to their database and got you on more spam lists. Not exactly an ideal situation 😛

That gives me an idea for floating brooms for a theme park ride. Will post it in that thread when I get time!

But, yeah, I like that idea! Would be a big hit with the kids and us nerds 😛

May get a new mouse soon. The mechanical switch seems to be putting too much pressure on the joint in my index finger so I’m thinking of getting one with an optical switch to make it a bit more comfortable. Didn’t used to have this problem so it sounds like my joints may be aging at a faster rate than expected :/ Technology has changed a lot in recent years!

Decided to pivot a bit and use a deck similar to what I use online. Didn’t look at it carefully before I ordered it, though, so it’s a bit haphazard meaning I’ll probably need to tweak it some later. Its strategy is a bit of a mishmash instead of being steady (too many Tuners from the looks of it) but we’ll see how it goes before I sit down and work on fixing it. Had trouble finding much regarding a modern deck for Blackwings so I mostly just picked one. They’re still popular and viable but decklists for them don’t seem to be popular, other than for the Edison format, which is kind of strange.

Figure it’s better than struggling to fix up my other somewhat crummy decks that’ll never be truly up to snuff for modern play. At least Blackwings can be updated!

    Edit:

Just realized I probably could have taken an Edison deck and updated it with modern cards. Whelp, too late to worry about it now! 😛 Based on my figuring, I should be able to make it more viable with about 4 card changes though 🙂

Yep, Boing Boing is pretty good about giving attribution! Been a favorite blog of mine for close to twenty years now. 🙂

And check out the retro about page 😀

Yep, it’s come a long way from what I’ve read. Playing without mods for now, I may install them later on. 🙂

The visuals are pretty stunning without mods and the game runs pretty well on my hardware. Water does tend to cause the fans to rev up, maybe because of the physics code?

The best part is the game world, though, as I mentioned. In the castle itself, suits of armor spontaneously break into fights, the portraits do fun stuff, ghosts cause mischief…. All over the game world, there are tons of things to interact with. You can skip stones down by the lake, cause the watering cans to fly about, and more. Always gives me a smile!

They did kind of miss the boat on equipment, though. It’s simply a numbers game without special properties (other than visual) and the chests are levelled so it’s something to keep in mind. It would have been nice to at least have different properties for each wand type that you can collect.

I’m waiting to do more exploring until I unlock brooms or mounts to make traveling much easier. 🙂

I feel like the world could use a coordinated international garbage strike to help create awareness regarding excessive waste

That’s one of the few older Bond films I haven’t seen yet, even though I got the Blu-Ray collection some years back. I really need to catch up on the rest 😛

Saw Jason X the other day and the plot was very cliche but it was still fun to see things in space for the novelty factor. Definitely not a classic or anything but good for a rainy day 🙂
