Watched Maximum Overdrive and it was so bad that it was hilarious. Too many things to list about it but it opens to people sliding off a bridge (Wheeeee!) and slipping on watermelons like banana peels. Definitely worth watching! 😀

Finished up with support a few weeks ago. The only thing left was to restore the Windows bootloader, which went without a hitch. Just didn’t have time to do it before yesterday morning. Now I can go back and finish configuring everything again. 🙂

No surprise that the motherboard is proprietary. Do wish they’d use more standard parts, though, for better software support.

SK Hynix is a good brand and known for stability. Their parts are mostly sold to integrators and the embedded market but they’ve recently started selling their SSDs to the general consumer so you may not have a problem finding identical RAM if you want to upgrade to another stick. 🙂

Sounds good on the monitor issues. I think DP is video only but I’ve only ever used it with external speakers so don’t quote me on that.

Year, everyone’s hearing is different. For instance, I had some EMF interference on the unused RCA jacks on the amp that only I could hear on account of the frequency. Had to cap them to get rid of it 🙂

Yeah, we get the driver loading errors on Linux, too. On Linux, it tries each module so the errors aren’t true errors but information messages saying the associated hardware for the module wasn’t found so the module failed to take effect. Can get a tad confusing when there is an actual error

Yep, that external looks pretty slick. 🙂

May need an external at some point myself

    *looks at RCT disc*

That was…surprisingly painless. I booted the installation USB, which sent me to the Install Windows area. At first, I was a bit confused as I thought it would give me a menu to select Install, Repair, etc. Next, I hit Shift + F10 as instructed and that brought up a system command prompt. One there, I tracked down the system drive letter with

    diskpart
    list volume
    exit

The system volume is generally the largest partition formatted as NTFS. After that, I typed:
    Bcdboot <volume>:\Windows
I exited the command prompt and then exited the Install window with the big X (why it still uses the W7 theme to install W11 is beyond me (I’m a bit of a stickler for visual consistency 😛 )) to reboot.
Boom. Windows was back. Took me all of two minutes.

Next step is to reconfigure systemd-boot. Hopefully that’s just a simple matter of adjusting the timeout but we’ll find out. The PopOS drive still shows as bootable in the UEFI menu, at least. 🙂

Honestly, I was expecting more trouble than that.

    Edit:

Boom. systemd-boot is updated. Just had to add timeout 5 to loader.conf in the ESP. 🙂

Final analysis: Windows didn’t mess with the ESP at all when updating it. Why it can’t do that during the Windows installation process is beyond me. It would make a lot more sense to just run the command than to reset the entire ESP when detected. Same with Linux installers.

Now the question becomes, what next?

Since the banning of Baronne a couple of months ago, I’ve been attempting to determine how else to protect me against the effects of Nibiru (will add in links later) as Blackwings are especially vulnerable to its effects, save for Full Armor Master.

Sales Ban is a good option and cheap. As discussed above, if I open with it I can stop the card in its tracks.

Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon may work, as well, but its effect needs some analyzing. It doesn’t say it negates on the field, just negates an effect, so it should work. It’s also cheap now after getting reprinted last week

Looks like Microsoft is beginning to deprecate VBScript. Out of curiosity, is there another language that can be used for “extensions” on Windows?

Does the UPS include a voltage regulator? Some of them do and that may help to some degree.

One of these may be helpful. Oftentimes, there are fewer issues when using analog – analog and digital – digital. Granted, I never had an issue with VGA – DVI in the past but that was ~2005 or so.

I do like that TV’s built-in DVD drive. Looks quite handy! Sony tried such a thing with their PlayStation TV where you could slot in a game disc but it didn’t do well, sadly.

And got Seed of Chucky lined up for this weekend. 🙂

Going to plan to watch The Brain that wouldn’t Die again soon, too. That should be fun!

Turns out that Tubi has Classic Who in their library. Could be fun to watch the old ones! I do miss British comedies. PBS used to show them on weekend nights but stopped doing that about ten years ago. They were a lot of fun!

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has been watched again. Just as much fun as last time! 😀

And Bride of Chucky has been watched. Absolutely hilarious. 😛

Yeah, just a basic syrup. The recipe said to stack the layers and then pour. It may work better to do the first layer, stack, then pour again.

Cool! Wasn’t aware she had a site. Good to know! And an updated version of the book is on the way. Awesome 🙂

Made a basic goat curry out of it with carrots, green peppers, and rice. Nothing fancy but it was delicious 🙂

I cooked the goat in the clay pot with the vegetables, the rice in the pressure cooker. One thing I wish they’d do is provide boneless goat but it seems traditional to sell the meat with bone for some reason. /shrug

Wouldn’t hurt to grease the foil, too. It’d also lend a good flavor to the underside of the meat. Love lamb over here. Another one I love to use the clay pot for. 🙂

Yep, you should make a pizza in it!

I do have a pizza stone but have never used it for pizza. I’ve only ever used it for bread 😛

Yep! The branch said everything must go so I took them at their word and got the sign 😀 Awesome! These days, most places are using LED imitation lights. I don’t think they look as cool and they lack the sound of the plasma! I always found the plasma buzz to be rather soothing

Ooh, that would be a great fit for a space themed mini-golf course. And let’s not forget about Pizza Planet!

Not haikus? 🙁 They’re pretty succinct and hit the spot!

Wasn’t aware that Nightmare Alley had an older version. Will definitely add it to the list. Been meaning to see the newer one, just haven’t gotten to it yet.

Watched Child’s Play 2 and 3 the other day. The second film was a lot of fun with Chucky taking revenge on Andy. 3, though, wasn’t that good. Most of the film focused on Andy’s plight in military school while Chucky just ran around trying to transfer his mind into another cadet. Going to try and catch Bride of Chucky soon 🙂

Found a source! Our small, locally owned grocery store carries it! 🙂

in reply to: Software: On & Off the Web #2421

I still see DOS used from time to time powering the checkout lanes at a store. Getting to be relatively rare when it wasn’t too long ago that I saw it everywhere (ten years). Saw it recently, too. Think it was last year sometime? Not sure where, didn’t think to make a note of it

Batch files are still very useful for performing repetitive tasks. Granted, most command-line users play with *nix and the syntax isn’t as pleasant but still handy. 🙂

Ooh, do you remember Midnight Commander? Fifteen, twenty years ago it was having a surge of interest in the Windows community mostly for being something different.

Yeah, it’d be nice to be able to provide that filter.

in reply to: Films & TV Shows #2419

Saw The Crawlers yesterday and that was fun for its absurdity. In the beginning, they have a kid playing with a model of Aubrey II, which was cool. The final battle against the trees was pretty silly. One character uses an ax on a root only to leave it and everyone to get strangled. No one else picks it up. Take it with you! Seriously 😛

in reply to: Films & TV Shows #2416

    Will do!

And let’s not forget Surf Nazis Must Die! Sure, their films are pretty bad but that’s part of their charm! The thing is, they know they’re bad and run with it. They’re a lot of fun! 😀

Haven’t seen any of those yet. Murray can be good in semi-dramatic rolls, such as in Scrooged. Granted, he’s not in many though.

Looks like we lost Roger Corman this week. 🙁 May need to rewatch some of his films in tribute.

Unrelated to the above but I really need to watch this one again. Been too long and it’s a lot of fun!

    in reply to: Random #2404

Yeah, work continues today on it but they called it “complete” twenty years ago. I remember my grandfather sent off a sample as part of the project. How can it be complete if they’re still analyzing it?

Sounds like something out of The Raven. 😛 I like calzones. Around here, they tend to fill it with a fluffy cheese making it taste very light. Haven’t had one in years, though. Should probably change that at some point. We only have a few places nearby that do them though so they’re a little bit hard to get

I use my couch as a chaise. I tend to curl up in it cat-like for some reason when I’m not on the beanbag chairs. 😛

Personally, I switched to digital games a few years back to help reduce waste. Not always an option if you have poor connectivity, though. There will always be a market for physical games but it’ll probably become smaller over time.

Always sad to see stores close, though. I bought quite a few things at EB over here before GameStop bought them. If they’re going to do a fire sale, go nuts! That’s how I got my neon open sign from Blockbuster.

    Oh, no. 🙁

Coffee shops are great places to relax and get things done. Very sad to see 🙁

    I have a question!

Small ladies, possessing subtile bellies, knew heroes

Is it supposed to be “subtile” or “subtle”? Looks like the meaning is the same. A reduction over time, perhaps? There are a few words like that.

Will need to think about the poem some 🙂

in reply to: Films & TV Shows #2403

And one of the characters from the book is a Time Lord himself. The book is pretty fun!

Not sure on the comic but will look! I still haven’t seen the Body Snatchers even though it’s been on the actual watchlist for years (not sure which version). I really need to change that 🙁

Will check it out! Been a while since I’ve watched some of the old crime films from the 40s. Probably need to fix that as those were quite good. Sometimes, I really miss cable simply for TCM 😛

Yep, saw the Wicker Man last year! Was quite enjoyable 🙂

Caught up with some more Troma films the other week and that was fun. Always do enjoy Troma films. Also got this gem lined up. Olen Ray films are fun! They remind me a lot of Roger Corman’s films 😛

Also started up the remaster of DBZ. It’s so much better than DBZ Kai since it’s just not fight after fight. It actually has world building!

in reply to: Computer Setup #2401

Great, thanks. I have an installation USB from where I installed Windows last year. Will that suffice or should I pick up another USB drive?

At some point, I should probably start labeling my USB drives so I know what’s what 😛

Thanks, will take a look! I was able to boot Linux without a working bootloader when I initially installed Windows from going directly to the UEFI so it may already be done but will look! 🙂

So far, The Cake Bible has been a big success. Haven’t had a single failure thus far. Sometime soon, I plan on getting a decorating plunger so that I can look at more involved aspects. 🙂

Made a sponge cake the other week and it turned out great. Only problem was that the recipe called for twice the amount of syrup than the cake could hold so the rest spilled all over the counter. Will have to keep that in mind for next time 🙂

That said, the chickens are laying again! 😀

Going to see if I can get a good source of goat meat. Had it in soup a decade ago and it was wonderful! Went to an overpriced butcher yesterday and saw they had some which is what sparked the memory. 🙂

in reply to: Computer Setup #2393

Yeah, I really wish Microsoft wasn’t so hostile towards other operating systems. Running multiple versions of Windows isn’t exactly a very common scenario! 😛

It does sort of follow what I’m reading in most places, that BCDBoot should be able to just fix things. Going to need to get my courage up: brain surgery is always a difficult business. 😛

DOS 4.0 was just somewhat open sourced, meant to post it in Software but got distracted. 😛

There’s also FreeDOS, which I’m sure is useful to some extent.

Could run Windows in a VM but I’m pretty sure that would only give access to the VM’s sublayer. That and I never did get the hang of using a VM. 😛

Once things are stabilized, I can go back and finish setting Linux up again and then doing other things to it, such as theming and installing other packages. Don’t want to do too much right now in case I need to reinstall yet again 🙂

I did look at the possibility of switching bootloaders to either GRUB or rEFInd but it looks like the PopOS maintenance tools are hard coded to expect systemd-boot and things break during an OS upgrade. Not that I’ll be in the bootloader much
