It’s safe to say there was an acute awareness of the two HDRs, even though a little voice piped up to say, “yes, play Oblivion with this on in windows, and you won’t have to worry about the HDR in the game settings.” Pixies have teamed up with goblins again. In any case, there’s another reason to skip the Windows HDR settings on the ViewSonic, is that the display renders as mush. This in general nowadays is of relevance to the potential user of a feature, that a mfg’s claims of that feature on a product is simply not enough evidence for that feature to be present and functional, the feature has to be certified by an external authority.
      Blech. 😛

Merlin’s name was actually Emrys, only used by Druids and diviners in the show.
Their reason for ethereal plots is that ghosts are of that composition, an idea that could have been conveyed in the film’s prologue, Carradine would have been the perfect choice. 🙂
Original Sin is not so much a film to watch as a film, but to play as a mood piece, the Cassanova voice of Banderas, the musical voice of Jolie amidst lilting and seductive Latin arrangements of guitar and strings. Costumery, set arrangements and actor dynamics are accentuated with nice camera work. Despite the very voluptuous Angelina in the intimate scenes, the 12% at RT is a thing, in that the events in the film don’t interrelate all that well, along with the incongruities – Jack Thompson’s American accent is a hoot. 😛
As Good as It Gets offers an intriguing interplay of disparate characters in a block in downtown Manhattan, film evolves nicely too, ending could have been condensed a little perhaps.

Thought it might be worth throwing in a passing mention to the old LOTR TCG (not to be confused with the LOTR Card Game) in the off chance you had not seen it. There was quite an adverse reaction to the game at the time, hopefully The Players’ Council have made the game playing experience more palatable for the detractors.

Grease is always a problem, what was once tried here was to dip a hard med/small paintbrush into a cup containing hot water and a good squeeze of detergent concentrate, and holding the keyboard upside down, run the brush slowly around the keys. Solvents might be a bit risky. Keep keyboard upside down until dry, and clean up with a soft cloth steeped in methylated spirits.
Still use any of the four monitors from the old system – are they all 24″. Quite like 1440X900 on the 27″, depth enough without being too wishy washy. the integrated graphics doesn’t provide much support for sizing the viewport to the screen, so back to fiddling with the monitor controls. 😛

Haven’t seen that one, did see the remake which, although not boasting a particularly intricate plotline, was memorable enough.
As a consequence, many of the innocent bystanders immediately dropped to the floor and egg-spired, no doubt. 😛

It’s easy to see what is wrong with Hollow Man, notably the wonky script and the implementation of Kevin Bacon as the mad scientist gone off the rails. Not sure if anyone else could have done better – Danny DeVito anyone?
Every one of those RT 26 points was well earned in the action sequences including the escape out of the compound at the end, the film perhaps deserving a few more points for the supporting cast.

They’re re-running Merlin on FTA, second viewing here as well. it’s very good, albeit slightly hamstrung by the regulation 45 minute episode limit.
When very young, read a translation of The Arthurian legend, can’t remember a thing of course, except perhaps a notion the actual stories were different from Merlin. Main similarities and differences are touched on here, no matter though, they are all cracking good stories!

Playing that on Linux or Windows? As you know, Alt3rn1ty had some good tips at AFKMods, he has since moved to a better place, and they’re all now playing Starfield. 😛

There was an incredible hype and promotional activity at the time of the original Star Wars film release. This brought the movie into the “crowd pleaser” category, so fun for everyone really, however the urge to personally explore it further never did come to fruition. The vollies from some critics rang clear and loud:

Star Wars is a junkyard of cinematic gimcracks not unlike the Jawas’ heap of purloined, discarded, barely functioning droids

Scalzi doesn’t hold back much either:

Star Wars is not entertainment. Star Wars is George Lucas masturbating to a picture of Joseph Campbell and conning billions of people into watching the money shot.

Now with AI, deep fake, and Whatever, it’s possible to illustrate the vision of Scalzi in such a way that Star Wars becomes entertainment for an even wider demographic. 😛

If ever you find yourself in that above-mentioned predicament of free fall flurry, feel free to holler and theme while you plummet and corkscrew, knowing full well there will not only be rapturous applause, but it will be accompanied by the keen realization it will be generated somewhere else, and for someone else most likely more deserving!

Unusual to see Liam Neeson in a comedy, does RT rate on casting, and could any of them be convinced to revise their score after a second viewing?
Only Lovers Left Alive didn’t work over here. The dull dialogue, empty characters and tawdry backdrops was all B-grade, the movie purported to be more than it was. It was one of those movies from which after 10-15 minutes, there’s a strong temptation to switch off, the only reason for continuing is that it must get better, to compensate for the wasted time on viewing the introductory sequences.
Conversely, the critics liked it, could it be that some of them decided to change their minds on the second time round?
Edit: Never knew any of the “laughing gas” movies discussed here, the Carry On team did it best in Carry on Nurse:

Vincent Price is classic as Egghead in Batman:

Just a small nondescript urn with a couple of small holes in it. Really have to upgrade, this caught the eye:
                          Frog with incense stick
Yes it is, wasn’t aware Tolkein provided his own illustrations, aspects of which are recognizable in the movies.
In the local cafe, there was a copy of Nature, May 2024. Lots of detail in the research, commensurate with Scientific American in quality. Do you read all the articles?

Never screened any Sidaris over here, at least as far as the recollection goes, does sound a lot of fun. 🙂
Men is interesting, with a few nods to films – like the the Scissor-Hands of Conscience or The Shining. Early on there’s the feeling of something lightly amateurish about the delivery, but once you accept the sparseness of the sets and dialogue with the clean edges of light, shade and sound, it’s okay, and the buildup to the shock of the ending works well. While there is no pressing urge to view it here a second time, it remains a candidate for the recommended list. 🙂
Right now, streaming (Hieronymus ‘Harry’) Bosch, nothing too spectacular out of the park, enough for a home run all the same. Harry is much gentler than say DCI Matt Burke from Taggart or Sup. Dalziel from Dalziel and Pascoe, but he is not all sweetness and sunshine.
Gorky Park (do recall the Mad Magazine Satire but it wasn’t entitled Dorky Park, the name of a dance troupe later) had a diverse cast including Hurt, Dennehy, Marvin, and Richard Griffiths from Pie in the Sky. Golodkin looked like Alexei Sayle from The Young Ones – it couldn’t have been him – but it was – Stuff was a standout. 🙂

On TV there’s replay of some old game reviews, the one of SteamWorld Quest: Hand Of Gilgamech was rather glowing compared to the link’s. Have you seen it? It’s a turn based RPG based on card play, with a diverse card base, favourites here.
The trading cards don’t come at a huge cost though. 🙂

Weird how some posts at HP get removed without explanation, over at Intel, posted a CPU-Z link in a thread that got me banned altogether, took a little while for support to welcome us back in for the reply. Note, their permalinks don’t anchor in Edge, speaking of which, some unspeakable agents of doom have gone and removed section anchors in Wikipedia articles, go fig.

Weird issue with MS Learn pages when logged in, looking at that thread some countries have it fixed already while others continue on with the pain. 🙁

(WMIS) is down, hence all the Metadata staging failed errors in the event log. Not to be confused with WMI which will continue in favour of MI.

WMIC is going btw, would have looked good in Midnight Commander to be sure!

Passwords import from csv via Edge won’t allow a skip option for an “errant” record, so it will fail for the whole lot, unfortunately.

Congrats on the jars. Do the lids screw in – it’s not easy to tell. Might want a tight fit in case that frogs breath takes over the pantry. 😛
Confining plasmas magnetically might be the best shot, especially if dealing with dusty plasmas, which can exist at quite cool temperatures.

Nick Evanson knows all about benchmarks, too, did he once dream of microchip designs incorporating Mad Onions – characterized in branding by pungent smelling rings forming round and squeezing the processor cores, thus introducing “Silicon Doodles” to the next level! 😛
Marge appears to be a figure of veneration, and also of some power, as upon the closing of the lid, she will protect the resting body below, (if it happens to be Homer, it’ll be from further taps on the head with the soup ladle) 😛
The Stellarator looks rather pretty, certainly a thing for fusion power, although there are problems:

In a production design, the magnets would need to be protected from the 14.1 MeV neutrons being produced by the fusion reactions.

Really depends on what the local recycling center uses, sounds like if there is no rayon/nylon/polyester and the like they could biodegrade in soil given 10-15 years or so. Over here, worn items are generally given the toss though.

Right now burning well perfumed, though not quite intoxicating Sensing Spirit incense sticks. Rather strange they are not included in his shop list, but somewhere else, so obviously some arrangement was made re permissions. Very soothing. 🙂

A LS & 2SB DVD was gifted by a family member for a birthday some time ago, probably ~2012. Replayed it later, in case something was missed. The earlier Lock, Stock and Barrel had nothing much in common other than the name, it does have Claude Akins however, ubiquitous in 50s, 60s and 70s movies and shows.
Remember seeing bits of Rift awhile back, tend to shy away from sub movies unless there’s a standout focal point in the description, funny there are not too many submarine-centric comedies, if ever one comes out, it’s odds on to be a hoot, if a crock instead, it won’t have too far to sink! 😛
Completed streaming Fargo Series 5, where it seems the writers have been commissioned to concoct a farrago of stuff with random set of weird events and characters in a neo-western format. Found it entertaining enough, and some surprising lines, especially from Tillman:

Well, you don’t get it, do you? This is the path I’m on. Starts at birth and it ends here. This isn’t a trip to Starbucks on the way to the office. This isn’t an idea. God cuts our names into bone and that’s who we become. He blows His holy trumpet and the walls fall down. You all came here to find Lot’s wife, but she’s already a pillar of salt and she ain’t turning back. So, go and live, or stay and die. It’s up to you.

The audio, sweeps, zooms and transitions in A Perfect Murder make it a joy to watch as the story unwinds. Disagree with the Rotten Tomatoes assessment, although the development in the last few minutes of the film came off a little underdone. Buddy Boy was terrific. 😛
The New Corporation is well put together and armed with a provoking tilt, it tends to promote the conclusions of the film makers through the us_versus_them angle, thus the idea of engaging in protest is the only way to change the fixture. (As an alternative, “common sense” has its attractions. 🙂 )
Although the basic premise of 222 is hokey, the visuals and effects are very slick, thus very easy on the eyes, the work from the lead actors was convincing, some of the supports wanted a second take though. Rotten Tomatoes took it down too much, more like a 6/10 here.
And wow, after seeing Dredd, and half expecting the detractors at RT rapping it up for the bomb squad again, pleasantly surprised to see that everyone liked it, as was the case here. Recommended. 🙂

Yeah, still using the Stupid Factory mousemat, for which the NIP number in the description might suggest the item hails from around 2003, enough to warrant a candidate relic at least. 😛

Ordered the battery for the APC Back-UPS RS 900G mentioned a couple of posts back, hope it works as the UPS itself was discontinued last year, making it a relatively recent relic.
Some local resellers offer cheaper batteries like this, maintaining they are compatible with the original, funny thing is, they differ visually, the installed battery is a side-by-side pair, and if they offer singles only, the purchase of two would cost more in any case.
