Awesome! On farms, they’re using flying bots equipped with lasers to blast weeds. Or at least they’re in development.

Here are the old ones if you want to catch up! Lots of interesting stuff on Textfiles!

The Register is fun. They put a slightly humorous spin on their stories. It definitely keeps things interesting 😛

Did some poking around and here are their newsletters and feeds:

Haven’t read the recent articles yet on dark matter but they’re starting to believe that it doesn’t exist and something else is afoot with dark energy instead.

Looks fun! Will give it a whirl sometime 🙂

Still haven’t played through any of the DnD games, even though I have them all on the wishlist and picked up the Neverwinter collection in a giveaway. Really need to change that at some point 🙁

    🙁

Fortunately, we still have Ars Technica. Hopefully, for a while more.

Interesting, but completely useless, tidbit of information: Melbourne, Australia and Fairbanks, Alaska are currently experiencing the exact same weather with roughly the same temperature and precipitation. Why, yes, I did get a little bit bored. 😛

I understand the point they’re making but the seed vault is still better than doing nothing at all. If we don’t have it, we’re definitely more likely to have issues than without it. That said, one option is to move it to a more favorable location. How? Easy! We have a little known place quite nearby that doesn’t suffer from anything other than cosmic radiation called the Moon. If we dig down and shield things, that may be a good option. Of course, it would need regular support runs to keep the systems topped off and maintained but, with the planned moon base, that may be doable. Granted, it’s more of a long term idea and a lot of infrastructure would need to be constructed but it may be a solid option.

    Also: Zoidberg plush!

Not too surprising as they made very little progress on it but I was really looking forward to it.

Blech. Another paywall. I’ll try to find some public articles when I have time. Sorry!

Interesting, that’s the only article I can find on it at all. Weird.

The plot thickens! I just did a bit of a dive and they just removed the link from the site, the pages still exist. The quickly thrown together Wikipedia article from information gleaned from the paywalled article says it was due to permitting and construction worker shortages but, again, I haven’t been able to find any other articles and no official statements. Based on this, I think it’s fair to say that they may be keeping the door open and would still like to get something off the ground. Would really help if I could read the news article in full or even get another source of information, though

NMS added fishing a few weeks ago. It’s pretty cool but the skiff they added is pretty basic. There’s no good way to get on it other than jetpacking and it’s a bit of a hassle to move while you’re on it. Hopefully they improve it!

Ah, they might have cancelled the entertainment complex at Orlando, we still have the Dopeameme Institute for Pleasure Research coming into Vegas, exclusively for those of us who are dopamine rush deprived!
What kind of sea creatures avail themselves for the plate? Interestingly, the links in this SO Fish Catches Man thread provide an alternative angle(r)! 🙂
Edit: Today there was something on the radio about this arrest, had no idea it had such airing, along with a super-active Wikipedia talk page. 🙂

Cool! Really wish we could get similar experiences here in Florida. Disney and Universal need to take note!

Right now, they’re pretty general. You can catch sharks, mud crabs (but not giant mud crabs), eels and the like. Interestingly, you can catch the same ones everywhere in the Universe but there are ones specific to planet types such as fish that can only be caught on very hot planets. Really hope it gets expansion in the future as it’s a great concept.

Never heard of it either! Jack definitely seemed to have lived an interesting life before passing

      #2962

Whelp. My settlement in NMS farms dirt. Unsurprisingly, there aren’t any systems that want it. They will only buy it for 40% or less below market value. 😛

Taking a break from hunting down Atlas to work on my base and explore the systems I’ve already visited. My fleet has grown by a ship, too. 🙂

      #2974

I’m probably going to need to start reconstructing the base soon. If you follow the initial instructions, you end up with a bit of a mess as you unlock the various base parts. Now that I’ve got a good selection of structures, I should probably start laying things out better. Going to take a lot of resources, though. Really need to start taking screenshots to share!

Definitely! A thread or blog, even reviving the subforum back at AfkMods would be cool. Some folks say it runs quite well on Linux – on your rig don’t think there would be much difference though. 🙂
Meanwhile, the enquiry regarding Oblivion is still shuffling through Intel’s in-pile, if they are unable to assist, an option is to refer it back to Bethesda in the hope someone can change the DC references.
It’s more than likely that most of the devs have moved on, unless someone back then put all that stuff into a VM. 😛

        #2978

Can definitely see about reviving things there. And definitely, a blog series is a good idea. 🙂 Will look into it!

Yeah, I’m able to run it at max settings on Windows without trouble. I only dropped the resolution down to 1080 as I got tired of listening to the fans 😛

Looks like this is a very old issue. Got some tips in there. I can say that the shader package renaming did make my game run smoother on my old GTK 260.

And an old Anand thread for more information. That’s the conflict I was referring to, I think.

        Toasted HDDs anybody? 😛

That fixed it, have to say forgot all about the shader issue, originally thought this was the issue, misinterpreted it, turns out the graphics subsystem is completely unaffected.
Wait, wasn’t it announced a couple of months back Anandtech were closing, there’s nothing about it on the About page. The forums are remaining, however. 🙂
Toast notification just out from the NAS Mgt Console, “Your disks are ready sir!” 🙂

          #2982

Great! I can definitely attest to the stuttering being fixed with the shader change. Did that back with the 260 and voila! Really should reinstall Oblivion one of these days.

Another item to add to our possible knowledgebase?

I do agree with some of the posts in that thread that it’d be nice to get better Source Engine updates. While it works, things have gotten a bit stale with it not keeping up tech-wise.

Pretty sure they’re just archiving the articles for now. Granted, they’ll be shutdown eventually but hopefully they’ll be backed up somewhere by then. A lot of it will be out of date, though. I suspect people will carry on the spirit in there as long as they’re accessible. 🙂

Just don’t try making toast in there! Who knows what the crumbs will do to the drives 😛

So this is very important in No Man’s Sky: in order to unlock the teleport point for a station, you must land on a moon, planet, or the station itself. When you warp into a system, you spawn right next to the station so I recommend taking five extra minutes to land on it. Forgot about that for a moment so now I need to go back a system and snag it. What a waste of precious fuel! I did find a tropical planet populated by dinosaurs. Will take a screenshot when I go back to it 🙂

How much is fuel? Bound to be plenty of oil on that tropical planet, any use for spaceships?
Remember Tobor the Great? Just in case it has slipped from memory, there’s a nice review here. 🙂

            #3002

Starships use good old antimatter, which requires refined copper. Apparently, there are other ways to get it. I really need to explore unlockable blueprints at some point. Anyways! Some planets have more copper than others but it’s not too difficult to come across. Your vehicles on planet use carbon for fuel, which is their substitute for oil. And yep, plenty of carbon on the tropical planets. 🙂 At the moment, my starship’s inventory is filled up with broken microscopes. I’m currently on a mission that requires an obscene number of system warps to reach the goal (using my freighter for better warp efficiency) so I’ve been stopping to explore periodically. Found a system selling the microscopes for 30% below retail so I stocked up. No more ship inventory, though 😛 May toss them on the freighter until I can unload them 🙂

Oh, nice. Missed that one. Definitely adding it to the list. On a related note, I really need to watch Forbidden Planet again.

Remember this one? Been a while since I’ve seen it but it was also fun 🙂
