Although PG might be hiding a shiver or three, methinks the feet are well covered. π
Watched Valérian et la Cité des mille planètes (excuse the French) the other night.
Should we ever mention that word “uneven”, some spectacular visuals, the basic plot line worked, but wanted beefing up, ditto for the leads, enjoyable enough not to turn it off half way through, as one might in the case of something really spectacular showing on the other FTA channels. These days, not a chance. π
The demise and crash of the large alien spacecraft – which precipitated the events of the movie – was done in a rather hurried fashion, so we’ll never know who the aliens were, the name/description of the ship, or how it could have destroyed an entire planet the way it did. Oh well.Anyway, back to comics, the movie was of course inspired by the well known and long running ValΓ©rian and Laureline sci-fi series from the sixties. So well known in fact, never got to read it. π
An obit for the artist is at downthetubes, and did you know any of the ten things Star Wars “borrowed” from the comic? The Peter Cushing likeness is – well – rather close. πLogged in today to … Akamai, things look okay, even though the Account is disabled for me, fairly positive one could view the issue history back in the day, as now the only issues current are the ones regarding the migration.
The forum contributions are fast aging, yet in secure preservation, particularly those from one by the name of grainy_lettuce! πFunny thing about this, we say nothing if things are fine, and become very loud if they are not.
Yep, video drivers updates used to be weird, MS preferred to handle them “automatically”, the video driver folk were always wont find something to complain about WU, and in many cases, justifiably so. Things have settled somewhat since then. πTried a LiteSpeed modification, the above would work for a local setup, as corrected at BBPress.
Who wouldn’t climb many a mountain to see Benny Hill? There are plenty of memories of the show, this compilation came up first in Google.
The Phantom was on FTA tonight, it somehow doesn’t warrant a second viewing, notwithstanding it’s been that long, and the movie flunks out in a rather fun way.
On Portlandia, there’s a diagnosis of Early Onset Grumpiness:
Oh, and plugs and things for Outlets, bring them on, plug them in and let them out, as long as they aren’t too short!
Put a bird on the rest of ’em:

Was there anything UF (Update Fragile) in the following?
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/all-things-site-and-organizational/page/2/#post-935
And next post: #post-1005
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/#post-129This one seems to work, although the reason for it has escaped. π
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/#post-167In fact anything on the following page, these stand out:
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/#post-283
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/#post-301
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/#post-333Just the following on the next page perhaps
https://stearnvault.com/groups/administrators/forum/topic/styles/page/2/#post-492
And the remainder of the thread may reveal other contributions deemed to be UF. πThe larger crabs can double as mummies for extra effect – to be captured in action for a feature rich youtube video, no less! π
Do you journey east or west for the best beaches?
Yay, Codeproject feed has returned, heralded by a marvellous gripe about Stupid Editor Lines & Symbols courtesy MS no less. ππ Yep, the EM waves make for a dial-up moondem on eternal handshake!
The Broodx are getting through to the DAS in the fibre-optic cables! Let’s check with them:
π These days (at least as far as this desktop wallpaper goes, it’s Spam, Spam, Java Beans and Spam. Without the Spam!
Renamed it to Non-Organizational so no-one gets sent to a cannery.
In the spirit of all things NO, here’s an example of such, the oldsite redirection fails after clearing the cache. Asked about it at SO, will there be an answer?Well tonight the bubble on the forums landing page was at least a minute slower than the one in this forum topic. Hmmm, don’t think there was this particular problem with Cache Enabler, assuming the memory is reliable.
Can say with certainty there were no issues before any caching plugins bubbled up. πThe “read” bubble immediately dissipating within the forum thread after reading, but not in the main or root forums page points to an indication that at least something in there is off. π
Could be Litespeed gone wacko, do you still get it? For the first time the main forum page would not refresh to “logged in” when I was clearly logged in Admin in another tab.
The theme wants updating, before that, the most important thing is to get up a Stuff breakable on WP/Plugin update thread for quick and easy reference.
Please. πThere has been some progress, so updated the thread (awaiting mod approval).
Does the Oldsite redirect work for you still?Hmmm, much more palatable when they can be spiced up with a little spam, minus the corn!
Here’s another idea, why not have a thread dedicated to just BBPress and BuddyPress concerns, which leaves the Plugins thread to cover general issues with the Style Pack, Litespeed, Hello Dolly, Cleantalk and PipDisqus. Notwithstanding complete and unconstrained latitude for opening separate threads for specific issues with the latter, as has, in fact, already been the case. πSure thing, we did have All Things Site and Organizational, which at the outset was a round-about attempt to cover everything. Could it be indeed that if it somehow ran off the rails during an arduous section of the journey, the ordeal is a sign for it to be repurposed, (as the PC protocol goes)? π
Happening very often since the move to TPP, there is a tip here which offers a code fix for the theme’s function.php:
add_filter( ‘bbp_verify_nonce_request_url’, ‘my_bbp_verify_nonce_request_url’, 999, 1 );
function my_bbp_verify_nonce_request_url( $requested_url )
{
return ‘http://localhost:8888’ . $_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’];
}Might be worth investigating. π
Not off the top, there’s a list of movie candidates at this forum, and here’s a bonus horror gag, try and coax ChatGPT et al to come up with a close match!
At present streaming Vienna Blood, had the impression it was released earlier than it was, very watchable, nothing in it (especially the wishy-washy, yet all too soapy sponging of the protagonists’ internal dramatics) to bowl the critics over, unfortunately.
Although La Brea got a good panning, there’s something about the threat/soap/hardcore aspect of the delivery that makes for good background noise. The application of “sc-fi” to the genre of the show won’t stick anywhere, except down the tube. π
Oh, and watched Zombieland through dinner tonight, thus not enjoying it quite as much as one should. π
Oh, and on FTA there was I Know What You Did Last Summer, engineered specifically and obviously for a setting up a franchise, so a bit formulaic. It so much wanted to be different than previous Slashers, too, so the plot suffers a little – yet holds a nice brew of shocks and surprises that are not conducive to excess froth at the mo’.-

Speaking of farts, one came up on the FTA news show regarding John Kerry at Dubai on Sunday:
The good articles are most likely behind a paywall, which means signing up to a subscription somewhere. Happy enough over here to pick up a mag in the newsagents and follow up on Google regarding anything that lights up. There’s always something somewhere for an enquiring mind.
As it so happens in such times as these (and with the silly season approaching), nothing feedwise has emerged from the usual sources like CodeProject, and the Youtube notifications have dried up as well. ππ Considering the density of the atmosphere, it’s amazing one can hear anything at all! They also have the sound of a meteoroid striking the planet’s surface and breaking up, … to this ear not quite as expected – wonder how big it was?
Good to know, how many base stations are there?
No, hoping it’s just a glitcho with hibernate, repeat occurrences will not be savoured at all!
Sounds like something on the contacts, can be a bit of moisture, or even insects or spiders, over here the old Sherwood RX-5502 has a bit of leakage which causes a crackle every time the TRS cord is pulled. π
Why a light – nice if they are dimmable nightlights, yuck otherwise.
Remember posting this spoof at AL, it was on again yesterday. π -
