  • Okay, just did a cursory search and looks like I can simply copy the files from the Windows USB and then run the bootloader repair command to link everything back up. Will need to do some more thorough reading of the articles on the computer to make sure but it looks like it shouldn’t be a difficult fix. Of course, we know how that goes. Curse you…[Read more]

  • Blech. Had to reinstall Linux but that only fixed some of the issues. So the firmware upgrade has caused the device drivers to act slow in the UEFI menu now and in the bootloader. In addition, reinstalling Linux seems to have broken the Windows bootloader. That doesn’t even make sense. Guess I need to boot up the Windows USB and see if I can run a…[Read more]

  • I can access the underlying system using chroot from the Live USB. I did take a look at the config files and backed up some of them but not all. Grabbed .config but not .local, probably should go back and do that maybe…

  • Glad to hear that’s all working! Yeah, sound can travel in weird ways and can travel along walls. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell where it’s all coming from and it can even be amplified!

  • Meant that the keyboard cycles on and off during POST. Will add that to the ticket at some point. Unrelated to the bootloader but still a relevant piece of information

It’s slow going between my schedule and then being in a different time zone, along with me having trouble communicating what’s occuring on my end (the frustration is partly why I…[Read more]

The Harley Quinn Annual made a good point regarding calzones: in essence, they’re just folded pizzas. However, many places put their own spin on them turning them into a sort of hand pie instead of a turnover. In which case, are calzo es still technically pizza turnovers? Even more importantly, will such a distinction cause an extinction level…[Read more]

  • I think the firmware upgrade also did something with the loading of devices. I notice that the keyboard cycles now during the UEFI loading, which it didn’t before. May not matter in the long run, though. Assuming I can still get to the UEFI menu when needed, I’m okay with device loading being a bit finicky during initialization.

    I couldn’t say…[Read more]

  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Live was pretty ridiculous but an absolute blast. Highly recommended!

  • The BusyBox environment is a text-only affair so I’m not sure if the mouse drivers are being loaded. The keyboard is loaded by the UEFI, Windows, and Live USB image so there’s something funky going on with the bootloader on Linux. I’ve gone ahead and opened a ticket. At the very least, I hope they’ll be able to fix the firmware cleanup step for…[Read more]

  • Well, I just tried to repair the bootloader using the same steps I performed before and it failed spectacularly. All I get now is a BusyBox interface on boot and no keyboard support so I can’t even access any overrides. Fortunately, Windows still works. Guess I’ll need to pester support after all. May need to reinstall Linux but, fortunately, all…[Read more]

  • Looks like it still gets updated sporadically, though! Mostly for compatibility issues, from the looks of the repository (as opposed to a suppository :P)

Yeah, being able to embed card information like some other media would be of great benefit. Will do some digging! I know the Reddit communities have bots that trawl the databases on request and…[Read more]

A nuclear bunker themed eatery could be fun in a somewhat morbid way. The menu could have things such as Glow In The Dark (a mixed drink), Bug Burgers (hamburgers crafted to look like roaches), and the like. 😛

A few years back, I suggested that the world’s supercomputers be tuned to either SETI@Home (now defunct) or Folding@Home to help with…[Read more]

Saw a hazmat employee picking up lunch in the McDonald’s drive-thru today. Didn’t think to get a picture but seeing the truck there gave me a chuckle

    Probably should be mentioned there!

They have a few other locations around the country as well, each with a completely different theme! Looks like they poopooed a Florida location at some point so, sadly, I’m not sure I’ll be able to experience them any time soon. Looks like a blast, though. 🙂

  • Yeah, that’s strange. I’ve never had an issue like that when switching out the display. I’ve gone from HDMI to DisplayPort without anything amiss. Gremlins, maybe?

  • Nope, never came across that issue. Bit odd if it’s just testing it through a system call.

    Cool! Could be quite handy!

Yep, can concur! A couple of my friends just started playing FO 1 and 2 again due to all the hype. Still need to play them myself… That and I never did make much progress in New Vegas. Not sure why when I quite enjoyed Fallout 3

    Here’s a somewhat somber article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lost_inventions

Incomplete as it doesn’t mention the Antikythera mechanism and probably others but an interesting read all the same.

  • Important tip for Master Duel: focus on acquiring the staples after assembling a decent deck in the beginning. It’ll let you quickly upgrade things. Don’t do like I did and wait five months to start getting them. I would have had a much easier time if I had gotten them early on… 😛

  • Nightwish is great. Haven’t listened to them much lately (been many many years) but I’m changing that 🙂
