He seems to have an unbreakable grip on the WP hamster wheel, which we all know offers no panacea for paranoia or any of its derivatives. πŸ˜›

Morrowind anyone? Interesting C++ project for budding (or even slightly decrepit) C++ enthusiasts! πŸ™‚

Yep, Goldfinger has descended to Purgatory and is still playing his golden harp, they say. πŸ˜›
While the Good Ship Murder is seen “sailing” off into the sunset, Catch Me a Killer (TV_series) looms into view stage right. Phew, some viewing ahead as each of the 11 episodes run 60 minutes, with more for the ads.

WALL-E is really a very sad movie. πŸ™‚
The Good Ship Murder is brilliant C-grade fare, even the cheesy songs at the end of each solved “mystery.” Like the idea if it were ever adopted for a RL cruise theme, slight problem, there actually is an unsolved case connected to that very ship. πŸ˜›

Happy birthday! Half your luck for the snow, there’s even an article about it for good measure. Don’t suppose the tropical plants will be too enthused.

Over here, dreaming of a slightly off-white Christmas is good enough so long it deosn’t get too drab grey!

Yes, backup is essential, especially through periods of elevated solar activity. DSL continues to work well, most modems support it, and I still chat to Mum through the copper telephone wires on a regular basis.
Bet this is all down to AT&T in lieu of maintenance costs, one way to bring them back on the ready – is – Trump anyone? πŸ˜›

There once was an old saying:

                    Waste not, want not.

                    Nowadays it’s more like:

                    Waste not, What not.

On QI: Upside Down they showed among other things wine glasses, art, flags and faces, there’s also inverted beer bottles/glasses and more on Wikimedia such as animals, amusement rides and houses. Just to stodge up this page try this selection of three houses to choose a favourite from:
                    Haus steht Kopf Vomperbach
Upside down house at Foreigners Street, Chongqing
                    Upside Down House 2. Saratov
BTW Here’s a nice reflection from a street cafΓ© a few years back:
                    glass from street cafΓ©

Nico at AfkMods mentioned GOGs giveaway of the point and click The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, downloading now. The manual for the KQ adventure-like looks really cool, the main gripe in game seems to be stuff lost in translation, oh well.

Even for a not so die-hard fan of movie musicals, Hairspray (2007_film) had a few good scenes, the transformation of John Travolta was nothing short of phenomenal. Soundtrack was a little short of amazing, with numbers like “(You’re) Timeless to Me”:

On FTA they played The Daughter, local fare, a well thought out and presented adaptation of Ibsen. Later that week there was Bad Eggs with which the viewing only made it to the end of the first half. Something off in the direction, the script and gags kind of worked even though everything looked and sounded out of place – although they weren’t really. You’ll have to see it yourself to understand this reaction though, which is something not recommended. πŸ˜›
Have just completed series 1 of Before We Die, an adaptation of the Swedish series, little interest has rendered the Wikipedia is rather bare. Not bad, some strange scene switches and unlikely developments might have been a turn off for some, as with the overdone effects, gloomy synths, and grey noise. Still, the yet to be mentioned series 2 presents a little better, launching it smack dab in the middle of true B-Grade-dom. πŸ˜›
You just didn’t want to confuse with DCI Tina Carter in series 1 with DCI Nicky Harris in series 2.
Edit: That was quick, so now onto Under the Banner of_Heaven (miniseries). Based on true crime, this carries a lot more weight in research and production. The seven episodes are longer too, up to 88 minutes in length, so plenty of character interplay and engrossing drama.

Yeah the Jeeps and Landrovers of today feed off the well-heeled and cashed up nostalgic/vintage/classic set who hearken to the call of the Cthulhu of the “good old days.”
Swamps and snow? Sounds a bit like Skyrim. πŸ˜›
Want to explore the Rocky Mountains – plenty of snow up in British Columbia and Alberta, so snow chains will come in handy. πŸ™‚
Fuel consumption is important, so is putting oneself at the mercy of travel accommodation providers. The idea of something like a Winnebago might appeal if one is prepared to dig a little deeper. πŸ™‚
Edit: The Landcruiser 2025 might tick a few boxes, also the two seater Landcruiser 70 over here sports a nice long open tray for larger items.

Myths don’t die, they just get put into cold storage, a place one suspects Santa is familiar with in any case. πŸ˜›
The association of Santa with Christmas holidays may live on more as a Santa Pause in the way of celebrating the beginning of Christianity. As for now, no letup in the plastic landfill armageddon of decorations, trees and wrap, a somewhst bizarre outcome. πŸ™

Yep, used to ride a motorbike and later commuted with a pushbike. On a pushbike (or hpv) you get the feeling of doing more than others for the environment or whatever, so you think you kind of own it. This is fueled (don’t you love the word) by regret or resentment that the govt and authorities are not doing enough to make hpv traffic more de rigeur, and doing it at the cost of maintaining fueled transport infrastructure. Thus it indirectly “forces” folks to go use bike machines in gyms, which sort of sounds illogical, but then one can only glean what thought processes go through the mind of an hpv commuter making a way through traffic snarls in an unpleasant, dangerous, smog filled city.
And so it turns out all this angst somehow spills over, albeit unintentionally, to afflict poor unsuspecting pedestrians in certain situations and locations. One way around it is signage, for example “watch for pedestrians” and “watch for irate cyclists.” The “irate” is a must. πŸ˜›
Definitely consider hybrid AWDs for all terrain like the Subaru Forrester/Crosstrek or a Jeep Avenger for instance. There are heaps of others at varying prices, and with these you don’t have to worry so much about charging or charger availability or compatibility etc.

Yeah, the general reaction to brownouts is folks getting browned off, as in a dropout in the middle of cooking the Christmas turkey, the roast is not!

Funny thing about the yammering though, it’s not as if it’s a test for a cab license. Probably the same thing if on the sims while the radio is on in the background.
Bicycles aren’t much fun either unless there are dedicated bike paths on radial routes. Just out of interest, have you considered an EV?

It’s perfect – a little bit of thatching more so. Not a lot of info about the water as we know – that’s a critical component for hot bubbly spas in our chicken doodle coop!

Another oil spill – they’ll want to blame it on the old ships. Wonder how much of it can be cleaned?

There were intimations of Gotham, or even Sin City in Se7en through which Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt were guiding lights, the atmosphere and mood also kept the movie on course. By the very title, along with the early revelations, you knew pretty much well what was going to happen, which reduced the tension somewhat. But boy o boy, the surprise ending made up for any reservations! Recommended.
Later on FTA, no grand feats of derring-do with costume regalia, matching dialogue or breathtaking denouement to be found in To Leslie, rather a blunt and earthy script to see the lead characters on their way. One of those movies where the urge to switch channels could not be entirely sublimated as the high critical appraisal did not quite convince. It’s worth watching so long the usual expectations of derived movie entertainment can be mothballed prior to screening.
