Watched the Atomic Cafe as well – could have done with a little more curation, e.g. the electric chair segment didn’t appear to have much relevance.
Missed the bar of soap action – is it towards the end?
The government would want to actually consider issuing Bert the Turtle hazmats for likely affected populations – if nothing but for a morale boost!

There’s a good list of energy storage power plants here.
Because of copyright considerations, cross linking on The Atomic Cafe to Wikipedia talk regarding the appearance and location of the original cafe.
          Atomic Cafe Sign
The_Atomic_Cafe movie courtesy of Youtube has the above shot of the vertical sign here, which appears similar to the sign on the Downtown Deco The Atomic Cafe DD56 Hydrocal Kit found at resellers like ebay and Amazon. Downtown Deco may indeed have the original image, along with the details of date and location, it may not be available in the public domain for some copyright arrangement, who knows?

Bad luck – still have a bad shoulder from a car accident in 1990. Still do exercises for it as recommended by the physiotherapist, the advance of age is throwing a spanner into the works however.
Never had the good fortune of popping a dislocated shoulder back in though – is yours still out?

Forgive the quality of Jo Mapes as seen on TV’s Greatest Game Shows of the 50s’ and 60’s

Dang it, Homer and Jethro do it with a bit more fi:

              They’re a lot of fun too – here’s “A Screwball’s Love Song”:

Soap on a rope for extra convenience? Atomic Cafe at YouTube is on the list!
Mum also wanted Brief Encounter at IA, recommended, especially for Angela Lansbury’s debut and Rachmaninoff’s score.
Have you seen No Country for Old Men? Will have to rescreen it as some details were missed – although being a Cormac McCarthy construct, there is no hope for a satisfying closure in the ending scenes.
One of the high points of The Infernal Machine is a Goldberg machine. The plot is a nice idea, just more meat on the bones along with astute editing would have made it more palatable.
Looper had some weird bang pop timeline transitions at the start which seemed unnecessarily heavy, otherwise it was pretty good B grade action stuff.
If in the mood for gritty action revenge fare, don’t go past The Foreigner – it’s a smooth, well-choreographed affair that will keep you hanging on all the way until the end! Recommended! πŸ™‚

What’s your favourite Scalzi title? Here’s a quote attributed from Scalzi:

I am not responsible for actions of the imaginary version of me you have inside your head,

Sounds like a retort in haste – he’ll probably deny ownership. The version template of Scalzi in his own mind must have a set of immutable characteristics translatable to the mind of another (preferably non-schizoidal specific) individual. One assumes it’s the imaginary actions of this imaginary version of himself in focus. Could there indeed be more than one version of him inside our heads – including one real, and another imaginary? Are both versions capable of real and imaginary actions? And can we infer from the quote that he is happy to claim full liability for any actions by the real version of him inside our heads?

There’s movie gold in dem dere vaults for sure – you just have to dig it out!
Speaking of which, a friend recommended Tron for its striking musical score – so caught it at IA. Not one for hard core movie buffs, more for those just wanting a spectacular sight/sound/motion hit. The balance and arrangement of the colours on screen exhibited certain harmonies.
There aren’t too many recommended IA lists – we could start our own blog if time. For example here’s two pages of classics from Letterboxd, another one from IA is an old Film Noir list.
Mum wanted to see Gaslight, so embedded it here:

Adds a bit to the page load time! The click to play image doesn’t appear to work with direct links however (IA’s one doesn’t either), fortunately a click in the black soup gets the movie on the go. πŸ™‚

Ah, seems like an email notification about Codespace came through some time ago, I clicked on something and forgot all about it!

                          Hi @lmstearn,

If you’d like to continue using these codespaces, all you need to do is connect to it with the links above.

The obscure space spoon link is the same as “Continue using”. It was clicked here recently, obviously, which means it’s retained for a while at least. As a matter of interest, do not recall assigning the name “obscure space spoon” – must be some kind of default – apparently not unique for each Github subscriber per Googling – who knows?

                            Funny thing,

Codespaces is on by default for developers with a GitHub free account

But you don’t see it in your space? Is it possible there was some issue with permissions or it got toggled off at some stage?

So watched Distant Cousins on Tubi, terrible and left it on autoplay. Up came The Night Caller, then The Perfect Tenant followed by 100 feet. All terrible, and there was about them an aura and feeling that the production crew in all these films were escapees from some institution for the criminally insane, (as was the terminology then). Turns out that fitted in quite well with an underlying theme found throughout all of these flicks. πŸ˜›
On a lighter note, FTA had A Serious Man where the Coens had a bit of fun with dybbuks and professors followed by a few chuckles from While We’re Young.
On a much lighter note, Are You Being Served is on FTA again, a genuine crowd pleaser thanks to the pausing for, and pacing of the punchlines, clear diction and well-defined stereotypes. Recommended for its general good cheer. πŸ™‚

Just as our Admirable Crichton had seen on the final evolution of Mediasaurus, only the true visioneer would ever conceive of Social Mediasaurus, and we hope his estate has filed a patent request for the concept accordingly. He never did turn the torch to full blown comedy by tipping his hat to our beloved institutions and inventors with such titles as The Infirmary Patent, Low Patency, A Patently Patinated Portent of Patent Pending, The Andromeda Patent Brain Strain Drain – need we go on?

Sometimes it’s just impossible to get completely aligned with the inspiration of staying with a problem. There was discussion back here as to whether it could be classed as a mockumentary, perhaps it was intended as a documentary, but lines got blurred somehow in the making of it. Who knows – will have to see it. πŸ™‚
Natural Enemy is a bad film, bad in the sense that a well-rounded cast must needs be slotted into the square hole of a pretty vacant plot. Crummy dialog and action make for a rather generous RT rating of 39%. Quick snappy scene changes and alarming music do nothing special other than speed up the bad. The scene with Chris Robards and Jeremy Harper in the tub was the high point. πŸ˜›
