Ideally, we’d have something like fusion power for vehicles but, relatively speaking, cars are still pretty young even if they did come out a hundred years ago. That and fusion reactors are still massive pieces of equipment and only work for less than a second at the moment. Not exactly practical but we’re getting closer! πŸ˜›

Nice thing about using olive oil? If you get hungry, you just need to drain the tank to flavor your salad. πŸ˜›

Been reading up on random Wiki articles again and came across this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morristown_UFO_hoax

Sounds very familiar! And actual balloons!

Still need to research brownouts more. Got distracted and haven’t gotten back to it even though the tab has been up for a while. Once I have a good understanding of that, of to reading up on cosmic radiation!

Heh, first read the conviction as:

50 hours of community service at the Hangover Recreation Commission.

Sure would have been a novel AA initiative!
Yeah, the general reaction to brownouts is folks getting browned off, as in a dropout in the middle of cooking the Christmas turkey, the roast is not!

      Wonder how it’s doing now.

      Doesn’t sound like a fun experience. I don’t know why I’d want a headache as a recreational activity πŸ˜›

Had that happen before a couple of months ago. Was in the middle of cooking a dish and a power outage occurs! Lasted a few minutes so I had to adjust the cooking. Was a bit annoying πŸ˜›

Should be doing alright. I’ve got one from my grandmother that is a couple of decades old that is still in pristine condition. πŸ™‚

Public domain day is coming soon! Quite a few goodies coming out this go around! And The Maltese Falcon! πŸ˜€

With how accessible information is these days, I suspect the Santa Claus myth will die out soon if it hasn’t already. It’s much easier for children to access information now, especially with the pervasiveness of smartphones, so they’re going to figure it out much sooner than in the past.

Myths don’t die, they just get put into cold storage, a place one suspects Santa is familiar with in any case. πŸ˜›
The association of Santa with Christmas holidays may live on more as a Santa Pause in the way of celebrating the beginning of Christianity. As for now, no letup in the plastic landfill armageddon of decorations, trees and wrap, a somewhst bizarre outcome. πŸ™
        Merry Christmas, btw. πŸ™‚

We do have Festivus! Which is also my dad’s birthday πŸ˜›

Yep, waste is a big issue. I’ve been using ecofriendly trimmings myself (reusable bags for gifts, durable decorations that’ll stand the test of time, etc)but I’ve been having a hard time convincing others. πŸ™

Yeah, Santa may morph into something else. Not sure what!

        Thanks! You, too!

There once was an old saying:

          Waste not, want not.

          Nowadays it’s more like:

          Waste not, What not.

On QI: Upside Down they showed among other things wine glasses, art, flags and faces, there’s also inverted beer bottles/glasses and more on Wikimedia such as animals, amusement rides and houses. Just to stodge up this page try this selection of three houses to choose a favourite from:

Upside down house at Foreigners Street, Chongqing

On our side of the pond, we have WonderWorks

Haven’t been in years and I wish I was able to. It was a lot of fun!

So we have one weather outlet predicting snow for my birthday here. None of the others have gone that far yet but we’ll see. Just supposed to be flurries but I’ll take what I can get!

Happy birthday! Half your luck for the snow, there’s even an article about it for good measure. Don’t suppose the tropical plants will be too enthused.

We used to get it more often than we do now. When I was back in high school, we’d usually get it once a year even if the flakes never made it to the ground.

Nope! That’s okay! I’ve got blankets and boxes to cover them with πŸ™‚

Still haven’t decided what to do for my birthday yet. I’ll get it figured out πŸ˜›

So I started reading the Silo series. No idea how I came across it, honestly. The writing is pretty good but the world building leaves a lot to be desired as it’s pretty much a carbon copy of Fallout’s lore. In the first book, they make a big deal of the mystery surrounding the Vault (the author calls them Silos) but the big reveal falls flat since the first book closely follows the plot of the tutorial from Fallout 3, down to the revolution and escape from the Vault, so it’s no big surprise if you’re familiar with the game series. The book was written in 2012 and, due to being science fiction, most of the audience will already be familiar with the games. That said, I’ll still finish it as the writing greatly surpasses that of Fallout’s in my opinion so it does give a different view if you consider it more of a retelling.

Whelp. The charging port on my ancient phone bit the dust this morning. It no longer detects a connected cable. Tried it with two different chargers without success. May be fixable but it’s probably not worth the effort of finding the part from a reputable seller. Guess I’ll prepare for the funeral! Was replacing it with the tablet anyways πŸ™‚

For some reason, I find it much harder to type on the tablet than I do phone. May need to get an external keyboard for it

            #3344

The first quarter of book two deals with the back story of the Vaults. Yep, I’m just using Fallout terms for sanity’s sake. Anyways! Back story: still Fallout. πŸ˜›

Funny, despite Reddit and others, no mention of Fallout in the article, or even in previous adaptations in the talk page. Both have a TV series out, of course, on the watchlist. πŸ™‚

Isn’t it supposed to be the middle of winter over there, yet these fires in LA. Has anything like that ever happened before at such a time of year?

              #3363

Yeah, there’s nothing on the Fallout page either about it. Weird. It’s clearly heavily inspired by Fallout so I wonder why nobody tends to mention it? Definitely don’t need a Silo video game: we have Fallout πŸ˜›

Still need to watch the Fallout TV series. Can’t see Silo as that’s on Apple tv+ over here πŸ™

Yep, middle of winter but it’s been a really dry one so there’s not much moisture to keep sparks from igniting. Don’t know how common it is, though.

Whelp, they’re going ahead with testing roads with radioactive waste: https://interestingengineering.com/culture/radioactive-waste-in-road-construction

It’s related to the shifting jet streams, going to be a big problem in the future for sure. So better water conservation is a defense.
They have to be careful about the weather, what happens when the bitumen roads get hot with some vehicles travelling at speed. And how safe would it be for cyclists and pedestrians?
Found a couple of bones in the gully today, and no, it wasn’t me! πŸ˜›

Fire control is a bit of a contentious issue over here. Over the years, we weren’t managing the forests properly and allowing them to burn so now they’ve got good conditions to burn out of control. It also affected their reproduction and diversity. We’ve been trying to correct things with controlled burns to clear out the fire hazards but that can’t really repair all of the damage we’ve already done.

Yeah, I’m quite worried about being exposed to it. Especially since I walk a lot. Wearing a protective lead suit would get hot and heavy. On the bright side, it would at least help me get in better shape.

Cool! Probably the result of a large predator of some sort? No paleontologist but maybe not as I don’t see any marks on them that would suggest they were chewed on.

I don’t care how crappy the aerodynamics are, this car looks awesome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delahaye_135

Most cars these days lack originality in their designs! They all look the same! Except for the ones that cost five digits. Granted, even those use practically the same design: a rounded triangle πŸ˜›

Boing-Boing don’t like the host listings, so up goes a blocker/wall without a booiiing sound effect. Luckily, you can clear the cache and cookies, then, in reloading the page, quickly hit the handy stop/pause button before the wall comes up again. Yes, its hilarious, sort of thing one would find in TikTok. πŸ˜›
Haven’t seen many – if any – of those in this country, not to say they aren’t here of course:

Tread lighly with those dealers! Like with most brands, the real cost of a vehicle comes with all the extras, addons and fries with that. πŸ˜›
