My kind of movie, pity about the subtitles, on these screens one has to squint.
Johhny Mnemonic was a nice concept, the intro got you in, somehow the rest of it failed to retain much interest, probably attributable to a set of expectations of the movie at odds with those of the director. π
And now for something completely different, the 40 year Old Virgin ends with the following song:
Yeah, not a fan of subtitles. Over here, it was dubbed but they hadn’t bothered to change any of the credits to english. π
Probably hasn’t aged well, either. Still on the list, though! Almost watched it a few weeks ago but watched something else. π
Do like Gibson’s writing. He even did an episode of the X-Files!
Saw this low profile sci-fi gem yesterday: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teleios
Essentially, it was a murder mystery on a space station. The acting was a little stiff but it wasn’t bad at all. And the visuals were better than most Star Trek visuals. π
Finally got around to seeing The Stepford Wives the other day. While it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. Found it a bit bland for some reason or other.
Saw After Hours yesterday and it was a lot of fun. Not a whole lot of plot but that’s okay!
Saw this one yesterday. It was fun but the plot made zero sense. They kept forgetting various things that made it nonsensical, such as when the heroines top got cut by a scythe at a warehouse leaving her topless. They just left it at that without a change of clothes and a few dead bodies. We’re supposed to assume she made it back in that state without trouble in a clearly dangerous town where everyone knows how to kick everyone and wants to kick everyone. Yeah, the film was pretty silly when you get down to it π
Finally got around to watching the Lawnmower Man (director’s cut) yesterday. Highly recommended even if the reviews have it at 37%. π
Yeah, Scorsese’s yuppie nightmare cycle sounds like a fair addition to the burgeoning hamster wheel backlog over here. π
Pretty sure that version of Firecracker showed up on FTA about a year ago, she was good in the action scenes at least.
Hope they bring Lawnmower Man to FTA here, anything from a Stephen King story is worth a gander. π
Solace is a movie that got squinched by a meagre production schedule it seems. Just a bit more time in revisions and edits, even retakes to get it over the line, as it now stands, the pregnant pauses, bum lines, unexplainable or inconsequential events keep it at C grade. Still, Anthony Hopkins tells a joke. π
Switchblade Sisters was pretty fun. Good bits of humor scattered throughout to lighten up the tone but the fight scenes weren’t well choreographed. Lots of unskilled flailing of fists π
Didn’t realize Jeffery Dean Morgan did a whole lot outside of TV shows.
Got Sleeper on the list. Pretty sure I’ve seen bits and pieces of it but that’s okay! Need to see the whole thing at some point π
Saw Happy Birthday To Me and it can probably be skipped. Well made in terms of crew but in terms of quality of plot and all? Nope. Little coherent plot and the flashback sequences just happen out of the blue, confusing things further. It also brought nothing new to the table.
The Cheap Detective is always fun. Just watched it again yesterday π
Saw the 1995 version of Village of the Damned the other day and it wasn’t much fun, even for a bad film. Everything was very formulaic and predictable while the acting was stuff as though they were just going through the motions. To be fair, there were a lot of children in the cast who may not have had much acting experience but the crew could have provided better motivation to make the acting more fluid.
Oh, Falk is terrific in Colombo, too. Pencil in the Spielberg directed premiΓ¨re classic “Murder By the Book” along with “Candidate for Crime” for superb entertainment. π
Problem was, the original b/w Village/Children of the Damned movies set the damned bar too high. π
Contrary to the criticisms of The Last Castle and a personal innate aversion to war flicks, it was entertaining enough not to invite any attention or even awareness to its flaws. Redford, despite many directorial flops directed himself rather well here and held the dynamism between the characters to keep the interest and tension alive. Point five of a recommendation. π
Always been a big fan of Columbo over here. It has been a while since I’ve seen it so I may go ahead and watch it again. Looks like Tubi has it!
Saw this B-movie. Wasn’t intended to be a comedy but the acting was so bad that it wound up being hilarious. Those are some of the best ones!
Pretty sure I mentioned The Woods several years but when and where I saw it eludes me so it may have been around 2018 or so. Gave it another watch the other day as I recalled it fondly and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
And finally got around to watching The Changeling. In short, it was a masterpiece. Highly recommended if you like ghost stories
The Woods is on the list, and did see the Changeling many years ago, classic horror, and enjoyed the soundtrack especially.
Often wondered what it would be like if everything we receive in content is presented in a Sin City format. Especially news feeds, events of the world delivered by shadowy silhouettes in fedoras with low hoarse voices consumed by passion/hate/revenge, while brandishing nameless weapons of unknown origin and deadly accuracy. Include stills and dialogue balloons for extra effect. π
Quite fond of Sin City. Picked up the graphic novel last year and it’s pretty enjoyable. It uses mostly sketch art instead of traditional comic art and is also in black and white, giving it an interesting look. It really worked out rather well
Saw Demon Seed yesterday and the plot made zero sense! It wasn’t even the fun kind of bewildering. It was just… bizarre
ROTOR, Turkey Shoot, and Brainscan were all fun if you enjoy B-movies
Gotham borrows a little from Sin City, it has the same composer at least.
Oooh, enticing poster! π
FTA had The Rhythm Section on again, consequently the memory was refreshed of the brittle plot once more. The feisty lead is worth a second look. π
Watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for the first time, impressive, though being a long film got a little lost in some of the detail, so definitely on for a rewatch next time. π
Really need to rewatch Gotham at some point. It was really good!
Finally got to see Christine yesterday after it showed up on Tubi. Well worth the time but it did have some gaffes. For instance, Arnie stops wearing his glasses even though it was implied the car initiated behavioral changes as opposed to physical.
Finally got the chance to watch The Evil Dead and that was fun. Bruce Campbell’s acting was superb.
Haven’t read King’s novel, did see the movie, and now, is it possible a tiny smidgeon of Christine has popped up in AI? π
Classic, and a must for the list is Evil Dead II. π
The atmosphere of The Disappointments Room clicked, not for the critics though. A shortish flick, Kate’s histrionics towards the end were off the charts. π
An improved reception it was for Blood_Quantum, in this case not here as zombie movie has to sport at least a few cracking one-liners to beat the yuck factor.
