  • Something about the Dirk Gently series that cam off a little flat perhaps, perhaps little Red Dwarf corn for a lift. The book is certainly on the list, in fact someone from Goodreads said:

And a good knowledge of the content and historical context of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is essentially required…

Is there a chance you can access the drive from Linux in a VM from Windows? At the very least one could grab the config files.
Oh, dust is fine as long as it’s not disturbed, we being the perpetrators of the disturbance, and the dust containing atoms of our peaceful ancestors. 😛

The old Skyrim unit came back from the repairer still with the beeps on boot up. Changed leads, connections, no improvement, so returned it to the repairer and it booted up beautifully. We agreed there was something amiss with the power back at the ranch, the first suspect off the rank being the (not so) old batteries in the UPS.
    On the Ob…[Read more]

  • Glad to hear that’s all working! Yeah, sound can travel in weird ways and can travel along walls. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell where it’s all coming from and it can even be amplified!

  • Meant that the keyboard cycles on and off during POST. Will add that to the ticket at some point. Unrelated to the bootloader but still a relevant piece of information

Good news, minus the excess euphoria, then. Will the ticket be updated?
Ah yes, sorry, looks like the PCIe 3 x1 is the best shot, will have to check the card though.
The unit has no wifi, which

    Expansion slots 1 M.2 2230; 2 PCIe 3 x1; 1 PCIe 3 x16 (wired as x4); 2 M.2 2280; 1 PCIe 4 x16 (1 M.2 2230 slot for WLAN and 2 M.2 2280 slots for…

The Harley Quinn Annual made a good point regarding calzones: in essence, they’re just folded pizzas. However, many places put their own spin on them turning them into a sort of hand pie instead of a turnover. In which case, are calzo es still technically pizza turnovers? Even more importantly, will such a distinction cause an extinction level…[Read more]

  • I think the firmware upgrade also did something with the loading of devices. I notice that the keyboard cycles now during the UEFI loading, which it didn’t before. May not matter in the long run, though. Assuming I can still get to the UEFI menu when needed, I’m okay with device loading being a bit finicky during initialization.

    I couldn’t say…[Read more]

They’re probably validum, wonderful looking plants, over here we call that kind of thing bush tucker. Growing down the gully here is stinging nettle, from which the dried leaves are added to tea for health boost. Have some of it growing in pots, too.

Fair enough, there’s definitely a sense they have a good track record on tickets so far, something of this nature should not pose too much of an obstacle for their illustrious techos. 🙂

  • The BusyBox environment is a text-only affair so I’m not sure if the mouse drivers are being loaded. The keyboard is loaded by the UEFI, Windows, and Live USB image so there’s something funky going on with the bootloader on Linux. I’ve gone ahead and opened a ticket. At the very least, I hope they’ll be able to fix the firmware cleanup step for…[Read more]

    No mouse either?
Someone from Reddit suggested EasyUEFI as a solution, they do offer a free trial, wonder if things break as soon as it expires. 😛
Lawk a mussy, issues with the new HP already. First, the description had an external optical/DVD burner drive which was not included. They are sending one through, but it’s a wait, and they have…[Read more]

  • Heh, this next merry go round with the Ob machine was in a way, partially attributed to the cat.
Booted up the machine today, knowing everything was fine upon the startup up bell coming through loud and clear from outside the dwelling. Great! Some time later, in pulling up a video, instead of the usual blast of sound from the SBZ, there was rather…[Read more]

  • Well, I just tried to repair the bootloader using the same steps I performed before and it failed spectacularly. All I get now is a BusyBox interface on boot and no keyboard support so I can’t even access any overrides. Fortunately, Windows still works. Guess I’ll need to pester support after all. May need to reinstall Linux but, fortunately, all…[Read more]

A nuclear bunker themed eatery could be fun in a somewhat morbid way. The menu could have things such as Glow In The Dark (a mixed drink), Bug Burgers (hamburgers crafted to look like roaches), and the like. 😛

A hazmat truck parked outside any fine dining establishment may impact on the comfort of patrons and ease of staff!
That thing is more than ten tonnes – the Frontier is hundreds of times more powerful, only around 30 times heavier. No bids from here either. 😛
