So far, The Cake Bible has been a big success. Haven’t had a single failure thus far. Sometime soon, I plan on getting a decorating plunger so that I can look at more involved aspects. 🙂

That said, the chickens are laying again! 😀

Going to see if I can get a good source of goat meat. Had it in soup a decade ago and it was wonderful! Went to an…[Read more]

Yeah, I really wish Microsoft wasn’t so hostile towards other operating systems. Running multiple versions of windows isn’t exactly a very popular scenario! 😛

It does sort of follow what I’m reading in most places, that BCDBoot should be able to just fix things. Going to need to get my courage up: brain surgery is always a difficult business.…[Read more]

Have you tried a different outlet on a different circuit? It could be that leg isn’t getting enough current

Would you have another device to test the UPS with?

Yeah, I have some not so fond memories of doing that ages ago with my Nvidia GTX 780s. Wasn’t a fun experience 🙁

So does that mean it’s time for the system to be reincarnated as a…[Read more]

Those are fine, what there is from the horse’s mouth is next to useless:

Visual BCDEdit would be terrific if it could show gui forms when run from a recovery disk, indeed something like XTGold from early DOS would be a blast. 😛

A good idea might have been a sister site, STI@Home, the search for terrestrial intelligence. At this moment, as well as other moments past and present, Computational Biology looks to be beyond mine, curiously the timeline chart of the Genome project ends abruptly at 2003.

    I did find these guys:

Do those look reasonable? Definitely looks straight forward even if it also has the feel of brain surgery to it

Hope this all works out with minimum fuss. Glad to have Support on board, they should pitch in with something solid. All that could be trawled from Bing was this:

Yeah, we have nettles too but not sure which variety. They mostly grow in sandy scrublands here. Often see them near prickly pears (a form of cactus), which are quite tasty. Haven’t seen them in a while, though, but I haven’t been to many sandy woodlands in a while.

I really need to get a book on wild edibles one day. The bookstore up the street…[Read more]

Okay, just did a cursory search and looks like I can simply copy the files from the Windows USB and then run the bootloader repair command to link everything back up. Will need to do some more thorough reading of the articles on the computer to make sure but it looks like it shouldn’t be a difficult fix. Of course, we know how that goes. Curse you…[Read more]

Blech. Had to reinstall Linux but that only fixed some of the issues. So the firmware upgrade has caused the device drivers to act slow in the UEFI menu now and in the bootloader. In addition, reinstalling Linux seems to have broken the Windows bootloader. That doesn’t even make sense. Guess I need to boot up the Windows USB and see if I can run a…[Read more]

  • I can access the underlying system using chroot from the Live USB. I did take a look at the config files and backed up some of them but not all. Grabbed .config but not .local, probably should go back and do that maybe…

  • Something about the Dirk Gently series that cam off a little flat perhaps, perhaps little Red Dwarf corn for a lift. The book is certainly on the list, in fact someone from Goodreads said:

And a good knowledge of the content and historical context of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Kubla Khan and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is essentially required…

Is there a chance you can access the drive from Linux in a VM from Windows? At the very least one could grab the config files.
Oh, dust is fine as long as it’s not disturbed, we being the perpetrators of the disturbance, and the dust containing atoms of our peaceful ancestors. 😛

The old Skyrim unit came back from the repairer still with the beeps on boot up. Changed leads, connections, no improvement, so returned it to the repairer and it booted up beautifully. We agreed there was something amiss with the power back at the ranch, the first suspect off the rank being the (not so) old batteries in the UPS.
    On the Ob…[Read more]

  • Meant that the keyboard cycles on and off during POST. Will add that to the ticket at some point. Unrelated to the bootloader but still a relevant piece of information

Ah yes, sorry, looks like the PCIe 3 x1 is the best shot, will have to check the card though.

The Harley Quinn Annual made a good point regarding calzones: in essence, they’re just folded pizzas. However, many places put their own spin on them turning them into a sort of hand pie instead of a turnover. In which case, are calzo es still technically pizza turnovers? Even more importantly, will such a distinction cause an extinction level…[Read more]

  • I think the firmware upgrade also did something with the loading of devices. I notice that the keyboard cycles now during the UEFI loading, which it didn’t before. May not matter in the long run, though. Assuming I can still get to the UEFI menu when needed, I’m okay with device loading being a bit finicky during initialization.

    I couldn’t say…[Read more]
