Thanks, the fog over the idea of #defines functions/macros has cleared somewhat – as the OP mentioned, the y variable wasn’t all that relevant to the MRE. So forked another sample with the updated code. 🙂
It’s just such a weird setup what with the comma and the insertion operator used that in that way as well. 😛
In other news appertaining to those over here of another age:
Reddit sues Australia over social media ban, citing free speech threat
      Free Speech hey?

It’s just that the people listening think you are … underage?

      😛

Yeah, using macros like that is generally frowned upon but they’re still used pretty extensively because of their convenience. I’d rather just put the code in an actual function 🙂

The irony is that porn websites have been required to block access to minors for decades and Reddit also has some porn sub-Reddits 😛

And, while we’re on the subject of xkcd, here’s another old goodie: https://xkcd.com/349/

Pop!_OS 24.04 just released yesterday. Going to look at updating next week or the following once the initial dust settles somewhat 🙂

And Hogwarts Legacy is currently free on Epic. It’s very much worth it 🙂

        Yeah, YouTube have complied already.
😛 What do the Linux folks think of BSD? What “boots it” when one of them has this tagline quoted from Adams:

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armor to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Thats’s an amazing offer for such a recent game – have you played it? Oh, and who owns Avalanche? 😛

Always wanted to give FreeBSD a try but never got around to it. Unfortunately, I’m not able to on the current system as System 76 doesn’t provide driver packages for BSD. Most of the hardware would work fine with the drivers in the repo but they’ve got a custom fan controller that would require some special drivers. Makes, sense, though as they test things on their own Linux distro PopOS and consist of a small team so asking them to also test on BSD and do the modifications would be asking a lot when most of their user base uses Linux in one form or another. They also have packages for Windows, too.

Arch was nice for its customization but the maintainers broke X and were ugly when I pointed it out to them so I switched to OpenSUSE at the time. OpenSUSE is quite nice and zypper is a wonderful package manager 🙂

Yep! Own it, actually. 🙂 It’s a really good game and well optimized. Amazingly, it’s still getting bug fixes and additional features every now and then, which is a rarity for games like this. It also got modding tools at the beginning of the year.

That’s one way of doing it but it’s also a good way to get blacklisted by search engines. They don’t generally like 18+ sites, even if the content is relatively benign

Nice find, anything “Poor-man’s …” is just the lick! 🙂
Another worry is that on the (unlikely) event Fuzzy Canary is hijacked, one actually ends up with undesirable links showing up loud and clear on their blogs – in which unfortunate case your regular Dagwood Bumstead career blogger type would indeed have to face the music the next morning from a rather shocked and peeved Mr Dithers!

Think it is really cool to win a free experience at Lost Wages as a reward for making a Fallout mod. Some of the reactions on that thread are not too receptive to the idea – but hey it’s a prize, right, – no-one (at least to my knowledge – and haven’t gone looking 😛 ) has ever complained of similar trips offered by television game shows for instance.
is it possible Bethesda ever considered opening their own themed palace at Vegas what with game favourites such as blaring radios, Saints and Seducers, Oblivion gates all featuring in manifold money guzzling attractions. Or put it another way – if you were a bank, would you ever provide them the finance for the bricks, mortar and shovel no strings attached? 😛

          #4876

A Fallout and Elder Scrolls theme park would be cool but I think the former would be more popular. People in general are drawn to post-apocalyptic settings. Outside Vegas, in the desert, would probably fit the theme more as they wouldn’t need to make too many changes to make it look like a wasteland even if they don’t use the New Vegas setting.

Fallout was included in Universal’s Halloween event this year so it’s definitely not outside the realm of possibility. Whether or not Microsoft wants to run such an expensive endeavor, though, is another matter entirely 😛

As for the prize, I can understand where people are coming from but it’s an opt-in contest with the prize listed up front so my philosophy is that they shouldn’t enter if they don’t like the prize. There will be other competitions that’ll suit them better /shrug

Oh yes, everyone would love to go shopping for mementos and souvenirs at the Super Duper Mart, even a Bargain Hunt styled event would work. 🙂
            Super Duper Mart
Yeah the prize has to be a trophy of sorts – here was a suggestion back at AFKMods. 😛
Got a weird warning on the password manager so shared it. 🙂
Oh, and in clearing up old links, forgot that Bethesda have sunsetted their forums over to Discord. Had to go to IA to reference CK Hang on close (No Save) | Community Beta for Bethesda.net. Yep, that’s the capture page, you have to use the links above the calendar (next to “Saved 3 times”) to get the page showing. 😛

Just be on the lookout for the ghouls that have taken up residence!

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with that location: it felt a bit small relative to the name. I was expecting a sprawling Wal-Mart kind of place 😛

Not sure about the issue in the manager but the issue with Samsung is probably related to some security events they’ve had lately. They’ve had a few breaches in the last few years

Yeah, losing their forums was a sad time. Discord isn’t a good replacement as it’s hard to navigate a chatroom when you’re looking for specific information and then there’s the fact that you need to actually be logged in. I remember trying to save the data but it didn’t work out 🙁

Funny how everything is going to Discord. Why don’t they make everything Discord anyhow – a Discord browwer, Discord OS, Discord apparel, watches, jewellery and other paraphernalia, Discord car – or even – a Discord government? And most importantly, a plug & play connector device. (hey – where Dis Cord?)
On the subject of discussion sites closing down, say farewell to the AMD community forums, there be a few who are not happy about the loss of that considerable knowledgebase.

              #4964

Discord does have a swag store: https://discordmerch.com/ 😛

Ugh. That’s going to make it harder to track down common issues and fixes, especially for those without a Discord account. Discord does have a threads feature but it’s mostly an afterthought and the interface is extremely cludgy. It’s good for chats but not much else, really.

Not a lot there that caught this eye – the keyboards are a bit pricey – nice colour arrangement and cool Discord logo on the Esc key.
                Discord TKL Mechanical Keyboard
The buttons for the themes don’t do anything in Chrome, and the webpage won’t reveal all until it’s maximised. Similar to the issue in the GOG forums, where a very helpful poster assisted with the recovery of some old posts as well. 🙂
Have you come across Weblate – if it’s being used for Wrye Bash with positive results- why not a milestone at least for a multilingual MWEdit?

                #5218

200 USD for a TKL mechanical….? That’s insane. You can get a really nice full layout mechanical keyboard for that price!

Ugh. Had something similar when I was browsing Discogs yesterday on the tablet: the click area for the sidebar stretched into the list area in portrait mode and had to put it in landscape to get it to function correctly. Not a fan of landscape as it’s more difficult to hold and browse that way.

Translation support is on the list! Haven’t used Weblate before but have certainly come across it. I can certainly add a note to the tracker to investigate it more. Once gettext has been implemented, we’d be able to apply to use the 160,000 string plan as an open source project. 🙂

Sorry that progress has been so slow lately. The code is in pretty rough shape and I can only do so much. I was really hoping to be further along after a year of work. No matter! I’ll get it shaped up, even if it takes me two hundred years!

                Edit:

Issue updated with more information 🙂

                #5253

PopOS 24.04 landed yesterday for everyone. Update went without a hitch but you need to redo all of the settings since it replaced GNOME with Cosmic. Not too difficult over here as I kept things simple with this in mind (it was supposed to be released last year). Got most of them but still have a few left 🙂

Quite nice, really. Pretty different but still user friendly. Going to need to play with things as time allows to see how I like the changes

Probably wouldn’t have been a bad idea to wait a while but I wanted to get out of the holding pattern 😛

Don’t suppose you’re too sorry to see Gnome out in that case – or will it POP! back in from time to time as a Goblin instead? 😛
Well done, considering the hundreds or repos at Github are managed by only 7 contributors. And from the release page:

                  ◦ COSMIC Files
                  ◦ COSMIC Store
                  ◦ COSMIC Terminal
                  ◦ COSMIC Text Editor
                  ◦ COSMIC Media Player
                  ◦ COSMIC Screenshot

Cosmic Terminal has a promising ring to it, perhaps not the same kind of ring to be found around the Cosmic Terminal (or Terminus) at the centre of Andromeda, for instance. Would it boast an attractive and customizable 3270 blinkable cursor?

                  #5264

Nope. I stopped using GNOME when 3.x landed and bounced around a lot before settling on a sort of hybrid install that used bits and pieces from XFCE and standalone aspects. Cinnamon wasn’t bad but had quite a few bugs in it that made it impractical for daily use.

They also take community contributions so that definitely helps 🙂

Terminal customization in the GUI is limited but I haven’t checked the settings files yet. Of course, you can always install a different terminal!

Display scaling definitely works better so my eyes are much happier. 🙂

The new version of PopOS does lean too much on Flathub for my liking (I greatly prefer the native system package manager) and it does have a nasty bug where it causes my screen to flicker after it comes back on from where the power manager shut it off, requiring a reboot to correct. Pretty annoying, that one.

How odd, given there’s no hibernation issues. Does the machine boot up automatically when shut down by the power manager. Or can the machine shutdown process circumvent the power manager at all? A recent Reddit thread:

                    Why is my screen flickering

Bugs and annoyances never cease do they? Consequently there’s another round with eM Client, Apple Accounts, Chrome split view workaround, and yep, another case of Microsoft deleted content.
                    🙁
Edit: Defender is now picking up version 1.85 of ProduKey.

Hmmm, will upgrade it to compare.

                    #5381

Sorry, I mean the function that simply turns off the display while keeping the rest of the system on

After more experimenting, I’ve found that it’s the act of fully logging out and back in that fixes the flickering that is triggered by the screen locker as opposed to a reboot.

I’m definitely going to need to sit down at some point and do some troubleshooting and possibly open a ticket with the official support team as I’m also using their hardware. That said, I probably should have waited even longer to upgrade as COSMIC is definitely not ready for primetime. Too late to worry about that now, though. If it gets too obnoxious, I’ll probably go back to XFCE or Cinnamon and hope they work better.

                    Yuck!

While we’re mentioning Chrome, they finally added vertical tabs back to the feature set after removing them fifteen years ago without fanfare. Yay!

Split view can be handy but I do feel that its current design is rather clunky and, as a result, I rarely find myself using it
