Watchmaker and jeweller, and for a while was in charge of all the clocks in the Portsmouth dockyard.
His daughters said he was organist and choirmaster at Rochester Cathedral at some stage, possibly between the years 1881 and 1900, but it has not been verified by research. His occupation on Anthony's birth certificate was listed as organist.
