Looks like the former is in the public domain so will add it to the list! Still need to see the Peter Sellers one. It used to come on BBCA all the time back when I used to get that station but never got around to watching it. Really need to fix that.
Yeah, I couldn’t really get into Arrow. Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow were much better in my opinion. What really got me about Arrow was that they tried to make Green Arrow Batman but without the magic of Batman, leaving it pretty flat. It also suffered from poor acting. Oftentimes, it felt like a soap opera with superheroes. Gotham actually felt like a Batman show.
Been watching the Flying Circus again. It never gets old! In honor of it, I give you The Lumberjack Song:
And The Dead Parrot Sketch:
π A parrot pining for the fjords may as well be pining for the rings of Saturn.
Jindabyne contains a few dramatic scenes laced with a bit of pep, it’s located near here so the scenery is familiar, as well as being captured in loving detail.
NCIS Origins is arguably a better show than the original, thus not a bad choice when there is little else available. π
Never knew Judge Judy is well on the way to be a billionaire thanks to small claims disputes, despite Judge Wapner’s disapproval.
Judge and Judy. Fought for pie,
Judge gave Judy, A knock on the eye…
They continue to repeat her old shows on FTA, haven’t seen anything yet of the newer Judy Justice.
As I recall, Judge Judy is the highest paid television personality thanks to her daytime shows. Still in syndication here, too. Due to her popularity, we now have about ten or so similar shows running during the day, in addition to the couple of soap operas that are still in our area (I think we only have the Young and the Restless here).
Saw Planet of the Apes yesterday. Finally. Only took me a few decades! It was fun but some of the dialogue was pretty cheesy, even for the time. Going to see if I can get the rest of the series on streaming or if I’m going to need to buy it.
These days, the young and restless will neither rest nor grow old until they get a positive gong in the People’s Court Sheindlin Arb. Reality Show.
20th Century Fox Wants You To… Go Ape
Since then, just about everything has gone ape-sh*t. π
Saw Se7en again after four or five years, just enough time to forget most of the details. Worth it, more for the script and performance of “anti-hero” Spacey this time. An amazing clash of personalities, too. π
Edit: Oh, and do watch repeats of Bones from time to time. They came over here at the end of the series, and the first impressions were of a rather nerdy, nattery, and colourless production. The music is terrible, the complete antithesis of, say a Kojak if you like. Still, once you get over that there’s a quality to be unearthed along with the bones. Take for example the opera singing trash collectors intro, one of the best ever seen. And yep, a Reddit thread as clips are frowned upon. π
Haven’t seen either of those yet. Think I can get reruns of Bones, not sure
Will try to find out about Se7en!
Finally watched Casino Royale. While it made little sense, it was a lot of fun. It felt more like a sketch show than something with a plot π
Plotwise The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford keeps you in as long as you stay on the slow drawling dialogue, and in the loop with the timeline shifts. Missed a bit on FTA, and so it all came in a bit jumbled until reviewing the Wikipedia plot section. Still, a mood piece with some fine shots and cool musical interludes.
So, got into to Tubi to watch Duplicity the other day – funny the Google AI (with mistakes disclaimer) says:
“Duplicity,” directed by Tyler Perry, is a legal thriller available on Prime Video. The film stars Kat Graham, Meagan Tandy, Tyler Lepley, and RonReaco Lee. It’s not available on Tubi.
My cuppa, so entertaining enough, Tubi both in browser and app will not hide the bottom control bar, so get used to a slightly squinched video frame, and the placement of the ads requires a more sensitive AI approach to dialogue shift and/or scene change. The same ad can repeat over a given set of intervals – a feature endowed by either a cdn, sponsor or other agency perhaps?
On their staff picks there is Chopping Mall – have you seen that?
Oh, and a new production of Les MisΓ©rables:
Yep, Tubi is a fun place!
Yep, seen Chopping Mall. It was pretty fun but I’m mostly out of killer robot films now π
Haven’t been watching too much lately, been doing a lot of reading, but I did catch Beneath the Planet of the Apes last week. Definitely not as good as the first film but was still pretty fun.
Going to add The Yesterday Machine to the list. Of course, I may watch Attack of the Giant Leeches first. π
The producers might have considered teleporting the machine right into Hitler’s bunker in 1945. And the leeches don’t mean any harm whatsoever, they just want to help us all by enhancing anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant and antimicrobial effects. On a giant scale.
The lead teacher in Bad Teacher is really bad, so there’s a good chance of a giggle or two.
Common Sense Media notes “Parents need to know that this raunchy comedy about a jaded, selfish, foul-mouthed middle-school teacher will likely attract teen fans expecting an over-the-top Apatowian laugh-fest, but what you get instead is an underwhelming film that’s long on unlikeable characters (even though they’re played by appealing stars like Diaz and Timberlake) and short on wit or insight.”
But it’s exactly that which makes this fluff rather droll! π
Birth is an odd piece shot almost in the style of 40s or 50s films. It holds sufficient dramatic tension to lead you onto the final disappointments.
Decided on Attack of the Giant Leeches. Lot of fun but I fell asleep for a good portion due to exhaustion the last few weeks and not having gotten my regular naps in so I’ll need to give it another whirl soon. The costumes were suitably absurd with the requisite over-acting typical of Corman films. Great B-movie!
After the Yesterday Machine, may put on Monster from the Ocean Floor. Yep, I love being able to get all of these B-movies easily π
This one popped up the feed yesterday and looks quite good so I’m going to go ahead and add it to the list as well.
Also rewatched A Boy and his Dog, which is always great fun. Sadly, the copy on Tubi wasn’t the best copy and had a ton of artifacts and other oddities. It’s possible the Blu-Ray is better preserved. Still a good one to add to my disc collection regardless so I’ll add it to the shopping list π
Sadly, I can’t get either of those π
Yes, watched Moon some time ago, intriguing and well filmed despite a depressing outcome. Not because of the film, but of the humanity of the content thereof – you’re sure to discover. π
Is that the same as the “full HD” version on IA? Hmmm, might watch that tonight. π Edit: A gem for sure, Steve McQueen was in the credits – not the one we are familiar with though. π
Tuned in to The Matrix Resurrections the other day, not bad, although a prerequisite for the novice or returning viewer is to brush up on Matrix lore beforehand. As viewers are expected to be die-hard Matrix fans, this is for them, if not, most criticisms point to a rather bumpy plot and screenplay.
Saw Moon the other day and it was pretty well done. The limited amount of characters helped a lot as it kept the film from losing focus.
Not sure if it’s the same cut that I saw but it looks to be the same film π
Yeah, that is an odd coincidence. Usually, they take stage names to keep their names from getting confused like that.
Saw Resurrections a few years back and didn’t care for it all that much. The first half felt more like it was a recap while the latter half was Neo trying to figure out why he was broken. Felt like it was relying more on nostalgia than anything new.
Started watching anime again after several years hiatus. Had some trouble getting back into it at first due to the break so I threw Black Clover on and it’s been smooth sailing since. π
Will keep an eye out for Black Clover, over here it hasn’t appeared on the FTA guides to date.
Have you seen any of The Purge series? Flicked through the Thriller category on Tubi and Election Year came up. Not an overly engrossing idea, the actors carried it through the best they could, the finer points of sc-fi dystopia got lost in the usual pow-wow ka-pow good guys beating up bad guys stuff.
Would have been a very long time if and when The Castle was ever caught on FTA – until tonight, good job by all of the crew, so recommended. Funny thing, the actual house had a heritage order removed and was purchased to escape demolishment and reclamation. Now more recently it is slated for a caravan park, and the council happens to be opposed to the vibe. π
Completed streaming the complete Prime Suspect series, all eyes on Helen Mirren in this gritty and fast moving procedural.
Yeah, Black Clover is an anime series so can be a bit hard to get over the air. I use Crunchyroll for the majority of the anime that I watch and I know Netflix has a few series locked up too. It really is a lot of fun if you can tune in! π
Nope, haven’t seen The Purge but I have seen the Star Trek episode it’s based off of! Really need to give Trek a rewatch. Sadly, the entire franchise is now exclusive to Paramount+ over here π
Ugh. Someone should turn it into a museum! Will try and catch it at some point!
I think I’ll take a short break from anime after I finish up Black Clover in a few days to watch a few more B-movies. They’re beckoning to me! π
Then I think I’ll catch up on Fairy Tail. Been a while since I’ve seen it and that was mid-series!
Just finished Black Clover. It’s really good! Recently, they announced that they’re going to continue the story after the cliff hanger they left us with the final episode four years ago. Anime takes a while to produce and even longer to translate so it’s going to be a while, sadly. I’ll just need to watch the first part again when the next part starts to land!
Finally picked up Interstellar on 4k disc and it was spectacular!
btw the real teaser in the A Boy and His Dog is the dog gone AWOL (taken prisoner) in the middle of the movie without later clues or mentions until he turns up all of a sudden. The re-appearance was a great relief!
Do recall seeing Interstellar some time back on FTA, an awesome movie of epic length.
Absolutely convinced Smile was broadcast on FTA some time ago, couldn’t have been too long as it was only released in 2022. The scary sequences are constructed with considerable imagination!
Could find anything too out of place with Money_Monster except for the strongly expressed opinion of the scam victim’s female partner. The title should have also been Money Monsters as we all should know and expect – but kept singular after Mammon.
Little Disasters is an intriguing piece. π
Most of those aren’t available at the moment here but I’ll keep an eye out for them!
Am enjoying Fairy Tail even if it’s not as complex as Black Clover. Definitely fun, just doesn’t have nearly the depth. Of course, it’s several hundred episodes longer so it’ll definitely entertain me for a while π
Definitely a while as each episode is 24 minutes long, AI tells us more than 5.5 days of continuous viewing!
Revenge was on Tubi, could have seen bits of it before on FTA, not hot on the dialogue but great if learning French. The critics thought it was a bit “tropy”, thought so here as well. Nice, but a single viewing was enough.
Saw The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith for the first time on the State streaming service. Bruce Smeaton’s music was fabulous, more for an epic war flick than for poor old Jimmie. The hard edges of the events in the novelwere smoothly burred over in the film, to such a degree the whys and wherefores of Jimmies downfall came over as a bit unrealistic.
Completed the solitary series of Prime Suspect 1973, bad luck about the follow ups not happening.
The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith leads us to this Wikipedia page. Interestingly, I’ve seen several on that list. Not sure why Night of the Living Dead was censored when it was a pretty tame zombie film. Most of the others I can understand. It’s odd that there aren’t more Troma films other than Mother’s Day on the list. Bit surprised, really.
That DPP list was once a faint memory – good thing it’s all over now. The Evil Dead was also dropped, but still banned in some countries. Have you seen Inseminoid – should be given an A rating on the terrific name alone!
FTA are playing the complete Bond – a couple missed – or forgotten were A View to a Kill and The Living Daylights. Timothy Dalton seemed to be a better fit for the role than previous. Wasn’t aware the original Casino Royale was in the Non-Eon section – well there you go.
Although Patience can turn out to be an acquired taste for some – here it’s hooked and looking forward to the second series. π
