🙁 What I’d do is have a chat (preferably face to face) with someone at HoA as it sounds like the crew are being specifically asked to do it. Try to investigate the reasoning for such an action, and why so soon.
Some good ideas there. Do have barriers, obviously nowhere nearly good enough. The human hair idea isn’t bad either in an area sheltered from dry winds, especially as hair takes so long to biodegrade. The barbers here may be coaxed with a small sum of money for collection … hmmm. 🙂
What might be the best advice is not to converse ad nauseum with barbers on the subject of hair disposal for fear of a developing Sweeney Todd episode. 😛
The 10 yr. old seedless Valencia orange keeled over, not completely though as the stems are still flexible. It’s always something in the soil being the root cause of the issue, so to speak.
Grabbing a sweet sarsparilla from a retailer nearby isn’t as easy as it sounds, due to seed acquisition and propagation. Many of these plants produce seeds which require the digestive systems of certain birds for germination, which may not go all that well in a partly degraded environment. Finding them in their natural habitat also comes with the caveat of getting there before the wildlife, and occasioning any fruit found on our dioecious catch.
I have yet to watch Sweeney Todd. Missed out on the stage version, too. 🙁
Really need to fix that
Florida oranges aren’t doing so hot lately. Citrus greening is hitting the state pretty hard, even home grown ones. On the bright side, the fig trees are doing great
I generally don’t have issues with the wildlife beating me edibles in the wild: plenty of beauty berries still available. Really need to try making jam one day…
Used to harvest blackberries but the city cleared the bushes that I have access to, as well as most of the low hanging grape vines. Fortunately, I can still find some grapes that I can reach 🙂
The border protection folks have done a pretty good job of keeping citrus greening out of the country, so don’t think it was the cause as there was no discolouration in the last fine crop of oranges. Can never be absolutely sure though. 🙁
Beauty berries are … beautiful, and our feral deer would certainly go party on them. Unusual as a deciduous subtropical – haven’t seen any in nearby nurseries to date.
There is a will and intention one day of getting close and personal with Big Spotty, in the meantime the urgency is to attend the so-named “Old Grump” tereticornis down by the dam as he/she has not had the best from our current weather behaviours. Not even half the height of Spotty, closer to half the girth perhaps.
Acquired an attractive Lemon Sherbert Coleus (or Plectranthus) from North Queensland- it has a marvellous fragrance and taste.

Also eager to procure Cremnus, another aromatic and hairy plant.
The brass “nozzle” sprayer on this garden hose gets very sticky to turn in adjusting for fine spray, tried various greasy/oily lubricants, even Tri-Flow with hardly any improvement in the twist. The connecting parts which are visible look clean, can’t speak for the other parts. Various denizens of GoogleLand say soak the thing in vinegar to clean before applying a silicone based lube, as it won’t wash away too quickly in the rain.
The legs on the old worm farm packed in, so replaced the farm with a newer version. A messy business at best. 😛
I really should use an actual compost bin. Instead, I just toss all of my biodegradables into a pile in the garden. All sorts of things sprout up from it. Though, most don’t survive long due to it not being the right environment. I’ve even had apple seeds sprout up in my coffee grounds 😛
May need to do some replanting next month. It all depends on how much I lost with the hard freeze over the weekend.
