Duplicate Bubble Notification Woes

For quite some time now (BP/Buddy)Press have been sending topic bubble reply notifications of the form:

You have 1 new reply to Thread from XX
You have 1 new reply to Thread from XX

or

You have 1 new reply to Thread from XX
You have 1 new reply to Thread XX

The notification counter indicates 2 replies despite there being only one. This by itself has been of low impact, unfortunately the latest release of LiteSpeed has tapped into the bug to reveal new behaviours.
Select a notification and be directed to the reply with the notification counter now reduced to 1. No problem there. The remaining notification will lose the date/time attribute (sometime ago) and remain active for any action other than to go to the notification section of the user’s profile page and delete it there.
It can appear thus when the thread is not updated.

You have 2 new replies to Thread from XX

After doing so, the bubble notification will re-appear after tabbing to another section on the profile, with, in some cases, the following message under the profile picture:

There was a problem deleting that notification.

Regardless of the deletion problem, purging the LS Cache will remove the second notification and reduce the bubble counter to zero.
If Litespeed is overriding the exclude paths in some way, can we be entirely convinced there is enough bubble bursting drama for the devs to want to be raising an eyebrow or three?
Edit: This only happens with an initial notification in a list with a population of 1. No problems (other than persistence in the profile notification section) with any of the processing of incoming notifications to other threads – until the notification counter is reset to 0 at least.

The bubble notifications to MWEdit had grown to 41, and as that thread hadn’t been updated for a while, the notifications count was being stacked with notifications from other threads as it were.
A solution was to purge the cache, delete all notifications on the user profile, go directly into Buddy Admin and disable notifications, purge cache again, re-enable notifications and they’re gone. For now at least. 🙂

Ugh. Yeah, definitely worth reporting to BuddyPress.

Yes, it’s happened again here. There were two identical bubble notifications for this thread, clicking one gets to the post, the other remains cemented on the bar:

The expected behaviour is for other notifications to be working, while the acknowledgement of each one contributes to the count of the first.
